Formation Description
There is a growing community of Cantonese-speaking students at the University of Leeds who are seeking a space to connect, belong, and explore faith in their heart language. Over the past few years, our church’s Cantonese fellowship has welcomed around twenty Leeds students each year, showing a consistent and genuine need for such a group. However, because this fellowship currently operates outside of LUU, many new or incoming students are unaware of it and may miss the chance to find a community that supports both their faith and cultural identity.
By forming the Cantonese Christian Fellowship (CCF) under LUU, we aim to make this community more visible and accessible to the wider student body. The society will offer an inclusive space where students can explore Christianity, engage in open discussions, and build friendships through Bible studies, prayer, and social events — all conducted primarily in Cantonese.
Opportunities
CCF will provide members with valuable opportunities for personal, spiritual, and leadership development. Through regular activities, students can grow in confidence, practice communication and teamwork, and take on leadership responsibilities within the society. With guidance and leadership training from our church’s pastoral team, students will also gain mentoring and life skills that extend beyond university life.
Benefits
The society will strengthen diversity, inclusion, and cross-cultural understanding on campus. By collaborating with groups such as the Hong Kong Society, Christian Union, and International Christian Fellowship, CCF will promote friendship across different backgrounds and encourage open dialogue about faith and culture. Ultimately, it will enrich the student experience at Leeds by providing a caring, faith-based community that supports both personal growth and belonging.
