Formation Description
I am a fourth-year student and have been in Leeds for the last four years and have talked to a vast number of Telugu people. Currently the only society in Leeds that accommodates all the Indian students is the Leeds Indian Student Association in which I am currently a member and have been in the committee in the past. I believe that the Indian Society currently present although accommodates all Indians, I feel that the society largely welcomes students who speak Hindi which is another highly spoken language in India. However, Telugu is a language spoken in the south which consists of people who don't know nor understand Hindi, which is also the reason for the development of the new societies such as the Leeds Mallu Society and the Leeds Tamil Society. Similarly, I would like to propose to create a new society for all the Telugu speaking students. I have been in conversation with a various number of students who agree with the same and believe that the Telugu Students also need their own society to get together once in a while to feel like they are not away from home. This society will give all the students to develop their knowledge of the Telugu Culture and Traditions. We would like to allow this society to be developed further in the future so that as the number of students coming from abroad increase, this society should welcome them and make them feel like home. We will be hosting all of sorts of events such as Tollywood nights which will be hosted at venues where members can groove solely to Telugu songs, general get togethers to enjoy and celebrate their progress in their education, watching movies together upon release etc. We want this society to be platform for Telugu students abroad to communicate with existing students to find out more about Leeds and like in UK in general. Please give us an opportunity in the form of a meeting to explain ourselves further and give us the chance to form this society. Thank you.
