We’d like to start this society as, firstly, we feel like the department is quite fragmented and we believe a society will be able to bring us together through an array of events.

Secondly, we are lacking an academic space to discuss different fields of interest as well as get support on academics whether that is through proving students of different levels with a network or by setting up conversation clubs to practice speaking Modern Standard Arabic.

We are aware of the existence of Arabsoc and Isoc; however, we are need of an academic society that will cover certain needs that these societies named above won’t as they focus more on faith/culture.

In order to achieve this, we plan to host Arabic movie nights to improve comprehension skills as well as cultural awareness. We are also very keen on organising conversation clubs to improve our fluency. Additionally, we are very interested in hosting talks pertaining to all disciplines within the department as well as potentially a space for students to present their interests/projects.
