Objectives of the society:
- Continue to promote diversity and inclusivity
- Creating a student led panel dedicated to advocating on behalf of School of Law students
- Host a number of inclusive events (catering to commuting students, mature students, international students, religious students and disabled students, among others, which current event provisions by existing societies do not), such as:
- Networking (POSSIBLE GUEST SPEAKERS)
- Cultural (eg Diwali, Lunar New Year ect)
- Social - pub night
- Multiple forms of feedback (to maintain accessibility) to recommend positive change in the School of Law in order to continually suggest improvements to the leadership team.
The types of activities we would like to run:
We would be organizing workshops and events that address the specific concerns and challenges faced by underrepresented students in the School of Law.
These workshops could focus on topics such as mental health, academic support, and career development.
This will be useful as it will provide School of Law students with advice directly related to their academic environment
We would run online surveys to address the specific concerns and challenges faced by underrepresented students in the University of Leeds
Cultural events such as Diwali, Christmas, Canadian Thanksgiving, Lunar New Year, etc
Gather student feedback on their experience and based on that make suggestions to be considered by the law school
Anything else of interest or to consider:
We have already organized a number of events with the support of the School of Law, which proved to be a success:
- Q&A Panels
- Board games night
- Canadian Thanksgiving - over 15 people
In recognition of our efforts, the Hub received a Kindness in Student Education award.
Transitioning into a society will greatly help us to engage with more students and to organize events more easily in different places on campus, this will increase engagement in our work and significantly improve the social element of the Hub therefore improve the experience of underrepresented students at the school of law
55 members now (over 50 students that are active members of our hub)
