Formation Description

Endocrinology is a multi-body system and complex medical specialty which is relevant to understanding nearly all other medical specialties, ranging from psychiatric, to renal, cardiovascular and gastroenterological conditions. MbCHB students are only exposed briefly to the field in their first and second years. Having an endocrine society would hopefully allow students to continue to develop the knowledge and teaching they gain in their pre-clinical years. In addition, endocrine disorders such as diabetes is one of the largest causes of morbidity and mortality in the country and often complicates other conditions that a patient may have. Diabetes research in particular is one that is constantly advancing, and it is important for healthcare professionals of any field to remain up to date on advances in diabetes management. Endocrinology society would hopefully help students to be exposed to new research and updates in treatment in this specialty. We strongly believe an endocrinology society would be valuable for students who are interested in specialising in endocrinology but also all other healthcare professionals who wish to improve their understanding of endocrine disorders and wish to understand how endocrine disorders can interreact with other conditions.
