Formation Description

I want to start this society to give university age swimmers the chance to continue synchronised swimming training past the age of 18 and to get more people involved in the sport, raising its profile.

The way that synchronised swimming works in this country focuses on children and it is very difficult for adults to continue training (multiple times a week) unless they are elite level. This is because national competitions require at least a grade 4 and regional competitions (or competitions where a grade 4 is not required such as Combo Cup) are often not open to over 18's. This leads most swimmers to quit the sport at 18 or only allows them to occasionally train with masters; some clubs only offer training to under 18's. This society would provide the opportunity for swimmers to continue their training and competition past the age of 18.

Synchronised swimming is also a sport that is relatively unknown compared to others at the university, so starting a society would help to raise its profile and allow new swimmers, who may not have known about the sport in the past, to give it a go.
