The idea originated from a shared passion for fashion and design amongst the founders of the society, specifically upcycling of garments. One of our founding members arrived at the university in hope of developing her sewing skills as well as meet people with a similar passion for fashion, however no society was available supporting that interest. After research and learning of the inaccessibility of Leeds RAG Fashion Show, they were motivated to create the inclusive and creative community for budding fashion designers themselves. 

The ambition of our society is to build a space for university students to explore their creativity in a way they may have not done before. The founding members themselves all do science-based degrees and thought it was unfortunate that the university did not offer a creative outlet for those not doing an arts-based degree. We want to make fashion and textiles more accessible, regardless of skills level or academic discipline.  

An essential part of the society is promoting fashion in a sustainable way and providing a way for students to slowly move away from depending on fast fashion. By teaching of upcycling techniques and skill-sharing, we hope a creative community will be developed and that students will share with their circles of friends outside of the society, to build on the idea of longevity and sustainability within fashion.
