Formation Description

I truly believe that this society could offer students with an interest in some of the more niche specialities a chance to explore a career that they may not know much about. Despite not being well understood by many medical students, aerospace medicine has extensive and ever-expanding opportunities.

As an RAF Medical Cadet, I have direct access to many doctors working within this field and believe that I could provide valuable learning opportunities for students at Leeds. This is something that I find incredibly interesting and would love to share with others. As well as this, many other universities have aerospace med societies and host conferences and events that we are not involved with. It would be great to see Leeds taking a lead on teaching students about aerospace innovations, career opportunities, and hosting events for other universities to join.

Specific benefits include:

- Improved knowledge of various medical specialities

- Access to a group of individuals with a shared interest

- A chance to explore a career and understand the pathways better

- A space to boost medical speciality applications with support from other interested students

- The chance to network and gain connections

Opportunities

- Hear from aerospace medics

- Engage with discussions, practical teaching sessions, and additional useful opportunities such as OSCEs / teaching sessions

- Collaborations with other societies both within Leeds and externally in other universities

- Potential visits to Centrifuges / tours of the UK centre of Aviation Medicine (I have hosted both trips in the past and have experience in doing so)
