Formation Description

One of the main reasons I want to start this society is because I feel the Punjabi community in Leeds is growing and having a society will help to bring us together and create a strong community bond.

I strongly believe it will benefit students who are staying at home, as they may not have the opportunity to find other people with interest in Punjabi culture, I experienced this problem first hand and have spoke to other that complain about not having a space to come together and meet new people. It will also provide opportunities for people to express their feelings and hobbies and expand their knowledge on Punjab.

The Midlands has always been a popular place for Punjabi students due to University of Birmingham, Aston, Leicester etc having strong established Punjabi societies, I hope that creating a Leeds Punjabi society will help attract more Punjabi students to the University of Leeds and help create better diversification for Leeds and the North.

I have seen how Punjabi people can come together in Leeds and create a positive vibe when the University Union hosted AP Dhillon's (popular Punjabi Singer) Leeds concert. So having regular socials will allow people to enjoy themselves and relax.

Punjab itself is split between India and Pakistan so another aim is to allow people to learn the different traditions from the different regions of Punjab and increase their knowledge so the generations that follow us don't lose touch with their culture.

To summaries it will create a fun environment for people to make friends, improve the bond in the community, provide opportunities for people to understand their culture better, bring together different regions of Punjab and diversify Leeds all whilst having fun events and socials.
