Explore Yorkshire's Coast between Filey and Scarborough with GOGA - Saturday 16th November 2024
This walk starts just outside Filey at Cayton and takes in cliff tops, beaches and breathtaking views. As we approach Scarborough, the castle will appear on the headland.
Scarborough is a popular seaside resort town reportedly founded around 966 AD by a Viking raider, and is famous for its two bays with sandy beaches split by a headland bearing the 12th-century Scarborough Castle. The South Bay was the site of the original medieval settlement and harbour, which form the old town, now the main tourist area with cafés, amusements, arcades, theatres and entertainment facilities.
We will pause en route to rest and to appreciate the views and will finish the trip off with some free time in Scarborough to explore the beach, shops and cafes.
We will depart by coach from the Parkinson Steps at 08:00 returning at approximately 18:00. We would like to emphasise the need for good outdoor walking shoes or boots, a waterproof jacket, a drink bottle plus snacks or a packed lunch for during the walk.
