Unsure about how to get started in research or how to build your medical CV?

This event, hosted by the rheumatology society, will have two guest speakers, one FY1 doctor and one consultant, talk about their career journeys, share how they overcame barriers and give advice for getting started in academia.

Additionally, there will be a workshop with CV templates for attendees to work in small groups to identify gaps in their portfolios and create realistic plans to address them, with feedback from the speakers. These will also be emailed out to people who have signed up to the event, should anyone wish to begin filling them in advance.

Timetable of the event:

6:30-7:00- First talk by FY1 Dr Mbanasor: getting started in research during medical school and prevailing against adversity.

7:00-7:30- Group workshops: filling in academic CV templates and coming up with action plans for the future with support from the presenting doctors.

7:30-7:50- Second talk by Consultant Rheumatologist Dr Ghouri: setting yourself up for after medical school and successfully applying for training posts.

7:50-8:00- Optional Q&A with speakers.
