Lake District Trip
The Lake District provides some of the UK’s greatest mountain climbing opportunities in settings much alike to those found in the Alps. By some it is considered as a global birthplace for the sport of rock climbing, with the first solo ascent of the Napes Needle, Great Gable in 1886 as a milestone event in the establishment of rock climbing as a pastime sport.
The Lake district hosts some of the best mountain crags in the UK, providing single and multi-pitch climbing routes in mountainous and isolated settings. Not only does the Lake district provide great opportunity of trad climbing but also hosts a vast array of bouldering opportunities and its coasts give rise to sandstone sport climbing metres away from the crashing waves of the Irish sea.
The main focus of teaching on this trip will be to further develop our trad climbing skills expanding into techniques and skills required for multi-pitch routes. Working within small groups of mixed ability we will share the necessary skills required to effectively work on multi-pitch routes including the systems and techniques necessary for belaying and building anchors.
Being the UK the weather is almost as unreliable and our train service, so our plans are weather dependent with great mountain walking and summits locally as well as indoor climbing walls nearby in Kendal.
