As Sponsorship sec you should be able to:

  • Negotiate- be prepared to fight your corner in order to get the best deals possible. Companies will not just give us money unless there is something in it for them too so it is important to make them aware of what Celtics can do to benefit them and come to an arrangement that suits both of you!
  • Communicate effectively- this is important when contacting current/potential sponsors as well as within the committee and society. You should be willing to take on board where the social secs want their socials and try to get deals with these places, as well as where the rest of society would actually benefit from having sponsorship/discounts.
  • Be professional and thorough- you have to show the sponsors that you are a profession person that they will want to work with, this goes for emails as well as meeting in person. Be confident and proud of Celtics, remember you are selling us as a society in order to gain sponsorship! You must be ready to read through contracts and read every single detail before you sign anything, if you are not comfortable with a contract you need to be able to have the confidence to bring it up with the sponsor, you are about to sign a legally binding contract on behalf of Celtics so this is not a time to skim read!

Sponsorship Secretary is a really enjoyable role and I have loved taking it on this year. It has given me the opportunity to negotiate with businesses in Leeds whilst maintaining relationships with them which is a great skill to have.
