Hi everyone, my name is Zoe and I’d love to be considered as the tap and jazz rep for next year. I’ve been at Leeds for 4 years now (having changed my degree) and am now going into my final year studying psychology. Although I do enjoy my course, dance is my one true love and being part of modern for the last 2 years has been the best! My main style of dance has always been Irish, and I’ve been part of the Irish dance society for my entire time at uni. I was lucky enough to be President of Irish this past year and also have taught the advanced class and comp teams for the last 3 years. I joined modern in summer 2020 when we were all in lockdown and I wanted to try a new style of dance. I bought myself some tap shoes and was instantly hooked and it is safe to say that it’s probably one of my favourite things to do now. I also started jazz and fell in love with that too. The sheer joy I have got from learning new styles of dance is something so special to me and modern is all to thank for that. I have been fortunate enough to have competed with the inter tap team 2020/21 and the advanced tap team and inter jazz team this year whilst also attending advanced tap and open jazz class.
Every week I look forward to going to class and will always be there (even if sometimes I really should be resting from injuries!). I feel I am a friendly face in class and am always happy to help anyone with anything they may need. As the tap and jazz rep, I would make sure to keep on top of all information and pass it onto whoever needs it and I feel I have good organisational skills from my roles on the Irish committee with having to keep on top of lots of things. I know that being the rep involves keeping track of attendance in classes and for me, constantly dancing, I will be around for all the tap and jazz classes to be able to keep track of that. Having been a part of modern for 2 years now, I feel well equipped to be able to answer any questions that new members may have about tap and jazz classes and also be able to know who to pass the question to if they need further help with the query. I really hope that you will consider me to be your new tap and jazz rep and I can’t wait for my final year of dance with this amazing society!

Hi, I’m Katie and I’m in my third year of Human Physiology at Leeds. I would love to be Tap and Jazz Rep for Modern Dance next year! I’ve been a part of Modern since the start of second year, doing tap and jazz and have been part of the inter tap competition team for the past two years. This year it’s been amazing to take part in a bit of street too (massive thank you to Harriette and Rae!) and is my favourite memory from comp season. For my last year, I’d love to be more involved and give back to the best society, especially since Modern is one of the reasons I’m still at uni, so I can always make time for dance! I’m an organised and approachable person so keeping on top of emails and communicating between other dancers and teachers are definitely my strengths. I also work well juggling lots of things at once, so I think I would be great for this role. I’ve met many lovely people in Modern and would love to work alongside so many of them in committee. I hope you’ll consider me for Tap and Jazz Rep and can’t wait to dance even more next year! Dance love xxx

Hi, my name’s Claire and I’m finishing my first year in Leeds. I’m basically doing a degree in dance at this point (like most of us dancers!), but I actually study financial maths and I’m changing course to Medical Microbiology next year. This means I will be a fresher again (hopefully less silly) and will obviously, once again, dedicate my life to dance. Modern has been a huge highlight of my year and I would absolutely love to have the opportunity to be part of the Modern committee to further my involvement in the society.

I have danced ever since I was 3 years old and have never stopped. I have done jazz and lyrical classes this year and I can’t wait to carry on next year. After mainly focusing on Ballet, Ballroom and Latin before uni, it has been really refreshing doing different styles. My favourite of mine is our current Moulin Rouge show dance in Inter Jazz which is so fun.

I may not seem it after a few shots, but I am actually a very organised person. Dance always comes first, as you all know if you’ve organised anything with me, so I think I would be able to dedicate a lot of time to this role. I think I would be a great asset to the committee next year and would absolutely love to work alongside the other members of committee, and hopefully make even more friendships along the way.
