Hi everyone, I’m Maryam and I’d really love to be your Tap and Jazz rep next year :)) I joined Modern in my first year doing tap and started doing jazz again at some point during second year and so far, I have no regrets! Going into my 4th year I want to be more involved in Modern as it’s something I’ve loved being a part of at uni. I understand that this role is mainly about being organised and making sure registers, waiting lists and email replies are promptly kept up to date and taken care of. I promise I’m a very organised person! I want to make communication between everyone feel very smooth so that people feel comfortable bringing up any issues or suggestions they have. I’d like to continue promoting the classes and encourage people to try something new if they’ve never danced these styles before. I that they will love it. I would advocate for style specific socials with the social secs so that people can get to know, not just the people in their class, but people all throughout the different levels. I think it’s important to enquire why people stop taking classes; when someone drops out, I want to find out if it’s something we within modern can amend to discourage people dropping out in the future. Hey everyone, I’m Jess and I’m going to be running for tap and jazz rep this year. My first 2 years in modern dance have been amazing and I have met some of my best friends through the society. Last year I took part in tap classes and comp team but this year I also joined jazz and lyrical classes and have loved how much these new classes have helped me to meet even more people. I would love to be on committee and help both new and old members make as many memories as I have through modern.
As tap and jazz rep I want to make sure that as many people as possible have the opportunity to take part in the classes they want. To make this happen I will ensure that I regularly communicate with all members of the society as well as teachers to make sure that all spaces in classes are filled and people are attending their classes. This regular communication will allow me to stay on top of any waiting lists, ensuring people are offered spaces in classes as soon as they become available, keeping waiting lists as short as possible.
Throughout my time in modern dance, I have got to know lots of people and I want to continue to get to know everyone, especially new members. Hopefully, this will help people to feel comfortable approaching me with any concerns whether this is specific to dance or more general worries. If people feel happy to talk to me, I can be aware of reasons why people may be missing classes etc, and help people where possible to attend their classes.
In order to help people feel more comfortable attending classes I want to work with the social secs to organise a get to know you social at the start of the year so people can meet others in their classes and have a familiar face to help ease their nerves at the start of the year. Hopefully this will help encourage people to attend classes and prevent people dropping out because they don’t feel confident in their classes.
Katie has done such an amazing job this year and I would love the opportunity to follow in her footsteps!
