HI LUUMS, I’m Izzy. I’m currently in my first year of music psychology and I would love to be the wellbeing officer rep for next year. I am proud to share myself as approachable, kind, caring and organised. I would love to have this role and here is why:
Throughout my first year of being part of LUUMS I see community that is gathered of so many students. While being part of chorus I have seen how music brings people together and how important this is to the wellbeing of everyone during their time in LUUMS. During my time as shadow manager I believe I have put myself out there for the rest of the ensemble and encouraged them to come to see me if they need anything as well as welcoming them into chorus each week. There are lots of struggles that someone could face from mental health related issues and academic stress as well as many more. This is why wellbeing support is so important for the LUUMS community.
If I were elected, I will provide a pack full of resource to provide members with directions for support straight from Leeds union as well as websites and helplines that can provide help during struggling times. I will provide a weekly welfare post to share quotes and affirmations and extra support lines. I will also host drop-in sessions for those who want to come to me with any questions or need any support. Not only is individual welfare important but reflections from those in LUUMS will help improve the society. I will provide forms for feedback to ensure everyone is happy with everything from ensemble meet up to concert reviews. This is to ensure that LUUMS is there for everyone and including everyone, so no one feels alone in the community.
From experiencing this already in first year, I see impact that the wellbeing rep has on the whole of LUUMS, and I would like to progress this and help everyone. So please, vote for me to be your wellbeing and inclusivity rep!!!

I would love to be LUUMS’s Welfare Officer for the upcoming academic year. I care deeply about people and am passionate about promoting wellbeing. Creating a space where individuals feel heard, safe, and genuinely cared for is something I value greatly, especially within a large, vibrant society like LUUMS. I believe that I can contribute meaningfully by being a reliable, empathetic and approachable presence.

Over the past four years, the School of Music, and LUUMS, have become home. I know how important it is to feel a sense of belonging, particularly for new students. As Welfare Officer, I would love to strengthen this feeling for both new and returning members, making LUUMS an even more welcoming and supportive community.

My experience as LUUMS’s Social Secretary (2022-2023) gave me insight into the workings of the executive committee. I planned and delivered a wide range of events for the society and I am confident in transferring these organisational and communication skills to this role. Additionally, during my year abroad, I worked as a Residential Ambassador at the University of Wollongong, welcoming hundreds of students and running weekly wellbeing events - from beach BBQs and meditation sessions to ice baths - all aimed at fostering positive mental health.

I believe being a consistent, familiar point of contact is essential, especially for those facing the challenges of university life. I value deep listening; not just listening with the intent to respond, but listening to truly understand. I hope to create a space for both meaningful conversations and comfortable silence, where everybody feels content in being themselves. In a fast-paced world, making time for this kind of presence and connection feels more important than ever.

I have a strong personal interest in meditation and mindfulness, which I feel can be integrated into this role. Learning to slow down, find stillness in the present moment and simply 'be' has had a profound impact on my own wellbeing and is something I could incorporate into the weekly wellbeing hour.

Hosting this weekly hour is something I would look forward to, especially as I spend a lot of my time in the School of Music - I would strive to make each session inclusive, warm and responsive to the needs of the individuals.
