Hello, I'm El, a final year music student at UoL and the current LUUMS Concerts Manager and Symph conductor and I would be honoured to receive your vote for the LUUMS President 25/26. Since my first year, LUUMS has been a large part of my life and where I have found so many like-minded and wonderful individuals who I am proud to call my friends. I would like to continue being part of this large and vibrant community of musicians while completing my masters studies, and lead this society for another successful year! Continuing the amazing work of the presidents of previous years (shout out to Katie!!) I will continue our strong relationship with the School of Music, who support all of our ensembles’ rehearsals and concerts. Additionally, I will endeavour to meet the needs of every ensemble and support all new ideas and extra performances outside of the LUUMS Concert Series’. I believe myself to be a very organised person and love to take on a leadership role and solve problems on the go. For me, being President would mean being an approachable person which any member of the society could go to for support. It is vital to me to provide a safe and welcoming space for every member of the society and I would like to achieve this by facilitating and supporting the work of our dedicated committee behind the scenes.

The coming 2026 season will be the 100th anniversary of the foundation of LUUMS. For this, I would like to work with the committee and passionate members of the society to create a large celebratory concert, inviting all our Friends, Patrons and active and past members of LUUMS to join the performance. This performance would be a pivotal event in LUUMS history, marking the success of our society for the past century and strengthening our musical community beyond the student sphere. Through expanding our outreach, I hope to create relationships with other Leeds based music institutions with the intention of making more performance opportunities, acquiring more sheet music through shared sources and helping anyone interested to get involved in the professional music scene in Leeds.

One of my largest efforts as Concerts Manager in this past year was to encourage all ensembles to programme repertoire by female, queer and composers of colour. Largely, this has been quite successful, with most of our ensembles performing diverse repertoire in concert, which I hope has encouraged all members to explore music beyond the mainstream classics. Next year, I would like to continue this effort and (hopefully) motivate all ensembles to include diverse repertoire in their concerts, creating an inclusive society not just through the people, but through the music we create.

All in all, I would be absolutely thrilled to be President next year, and hope to earn your support in celebrating LUUMS for another year!
