Hi guys! I'm Becca and I'm super excited to nominate myself to become the synchro Beginners captain!

I joined synchro in my first year at Leeds as a total beginner, I had done a fair amount of swimming in my home town but synchro was always something cool that I loved to watch when the Olympics were on, not something I ever imagined myself doing. Despite it being pretty daunting joining a society which I had no experience in and not knowing anyone in the group, I'm so glad I took the plunge (excuse the pun) because its the most lovely and fulfilling society.

I know from my own experience at synchro that some of the techniques are pretty challenging and trying to learn all the counts can feel quite overwhelming at first, but with enough practice and team spirit, performing can be incredibly rewarding! By the end of my first year, our beginners team got to perform 2 short routines at Varsity in front of the Leeds Uni and Leeds Becket swimmers, and although it was definitely pretty nerve-wracking, it was so rewarding and our whole team were so proud of what we had just achieved (as well as getting lots of compliments on our Varsity swimming cozzies and slick back-hair done properly for the performance)!

I hope that if I get the chance to be the beginners captain, we can recreate that welcoming and positive feeling that I experienced from my team in first year where we can all learn new techniques together in a supportive and cosy environment. I think that synchro should be a society where we can challenge ourselves, build our confidence and have a lot of fun as a team :)
