Hey, it’s that time again! For anyone who doesn’t recognise me (and I don’t blame you), my name is Aidan and I’m a Chemical Engineering student who just happens to be your current Treasurer and Equality & Diversity Secretary. For the past year I’ve been on a placement in West Cumbria on a nuclear plant so some of you I may not have met yet, but I can’t wait to see you all soon!

So why should you vote for me?
I got into archery in my first year of uni back in 2021 by joining this society. I’ve experienced it all, going from the beginner experience right up to joining the committee, and because of that I believe I have the experience to help run this club. Going from knowing nothing and no one all the way to becoming an experienced archer and understanding how the society operates behind the scenes I believe I have what it takes to continue running this club to an exceptional standard.

Past Experience
As you may know, I’m your current Treasurer and therefore already know how the accounting side of this club operates. I’ve had a year to look over the numbers and have experience in producing the budget for the year, etc. So, if you vote for me you know that the club is in good hands that know what they’re doing already.

Training
I believe in creating a club that can nurture everyone’s skill level and help them develop into the archers they want to be. I know that sometimes people may want that bit of guidance but don’t want to ask, so by holding dedicated sessions for beginners, intermediate, and very experienced archers on the different aspects of the sport (shooting, kit maintenance, competition etiquette, etc.) we can grow everyone’s confidence 😊

Socials
As much as we are a sport society, we can’t only focus on that! Building on the past few years of excellent social events, I believe we should continue hosting a variety of different socials to help foster a sense of community between us. This is especially important for member retention, as a good social scene will help us keep beginners as they mingle and get comfortable with the experienced archers, which benefits the club in the long run.

Welcoming Atmosphere
If any of you have seen me shoot before, you know that my first priority (other than safety) is always to have a good time. I don’t want to run a society where people feel obligated to go, or that because they aren’t going to competitions that they aren’t valued. Everyone should be wanting to shoot because they enjoy their time during the sessions and the socials! As such, I want everyone to feel comfortable speaking to me or any other member of the committee – this is your society too!

Hello everyone,

My name is Mustafa Can Hıdıroğlu, and I’m excited to stand for the role of President of the Archery Society. I will be a first-year Computer Science student next year, and I’ve been passionate about archery for the past nine years.

Archery has been more than a hobby for me — it’s been a way to stay grounded and focused through life’s challenges. Over the years, I’ve earned two national and several regional medals, and had the opportunity to compete in the Turkish national team selections. I’ve trained with some of Turkey’s best coaches, gaining not only technical skills but also the discipline and mindset needed to succeed at a high level.

If I’m elected, my goal is to ensure every member feels welcomed, supported, and part of something meaningful. Whether you’re just starting or aiming for national competitions, I want our sessions to be enjoyable, focused, and a place where we can all grow — not only in skill, but in confidence and as a community. Together, we’ll encourage one another and proudly represent Leeds, no matter our experience or goals.

One area I’d also like to develop is compound archery. While it’s a smaller discipline in the UK, I believe there’s great potential to give it a bit more visibility within our society. I’d like to make sure compound archers feel equally supported in terms of coaching, equipment, and opportunities, without taking focus away from other styles. It’s all about balance, and making sure every member gets the most out of their experience.

Hi, I’m Lara, a Physics and Astrophysics student heading into my third year. I’ve been passionate about archery for nearly six years, competing in university tournaments as well as at the national level. I’m excited to bring my experience and enthusiasm to support our club and its members!


Why me?

Workshops: This will support anyone looking to learn more about archery while gaining confidence and independence with their equipment, including fletching arrows, tuning their bow, and much more.

Socials Event & Media: Build on past social events to make archery not just a sport, but a fun and inclusive game for everyone! Increase engagement through more active social media, showcasing the club’s growth and community spirit.

Club Development: Improve club finances and gain sponsorships to enhance training, equipment, and competition opportunities. Push for greater recognition within the university to support our club’s growth and success.

Keep Growing: Enhance support for new archers, especially during the outdoor season, while also providing opportunities for experienced archers. Introduce dedicated coaching sessions and increase recognition and support during competitions.
