Hi everyone, my name is Aurel Thiofilus, also known as LUNS favorite asian (references available upon request), and im running for president. Trust me when I said, im entering my 5th year of MUN experience and frankly I am no longer competing or chairing, but that means I can devote all my time to run the society. You may have known me from the many socials and weekly training sessions as i tend to introduce myself multiple time to the same person because im bad at remembering faces, but that doesn't mean im bad at managing events and organizations. In the past, ive had experience being a delegate, a chair, a coach, an academic advisor, a committee, and an ambassador; thus i believe im aware of all the complexities in running and managing an MUN society. My aim if elected is to have the time to share my experience and techniques in handling a conference, especially to those who are new. after limun 2022, i really hope LUNS can reclaim our best delegation award, that was taken from us. Hello! I am running to be the President of the Leeds United Nations Society.
A little bit about me – I study law and I am about to finish my second year. I have a pet dog and pet chickens (which was always my fun fact icebreaker at conferences) and I really like languages! I speak varying amounts of Arabic, French and German, so do say hallo if you want!
In this past academic year, I have been President of both the Film Society and the Book Club. I have a lot of experience in running a society, whether its handling all the admin, or trying to arrange the best possible events for members! I try to get feedback at intervals throughout the year to make sure that things are just as you would want them, and I would keep this up for next year. I have also arranged a lot of collaborations with other societies (around three per term), and I am more than happy to do something similar if there is interest! I have good connections with multiple cinemas around Leeds and on campus, so a film screening is something I would offer up during the year. Other events I have organised include pub nights and an Otley run, so we can definitely bring a social aspect to all our serious debates.
I have seven years of experience in both delegating and chairing, and I was the Secretary-General in my final year of high school/sixth-form. I organised a two day international conference, which sadly didn’t take place due to Covid-19, but I did a lot of liaising with people from all around the world. I also attended an international conference in Washington DC and it was the most amazing experience. If there is interest, I would love to arrange an international conference for next year, and share that with all of you!
Overall, I believe that I will be responsive and make sure the society is what we all want it to be. We will have weekly debates and training, but I like being flexible and bringing in something a little different! Model UN played a very important role in my life growing up, and I would love to see it through now, being older but equally keen to get involved!

The UN society is one of the first societies I joined when coming to uni. I have had great fun in it so far and wish to contribute to it lots if I get elected to the committee. I certainly have enjoyed the Model UN conferences I have attended so far and hope to provide you guys with more opportunities to go. See you at our next UN conference soon.
