Hi everyone!

My name is Henry, and I would consider it a privilege to represent you as the new Research Rep for MSRC next year. I am motivated to work alongside my fellow committee members to deliver a research scheme that encourages students from all year groups to have the confidence to engage in research alongside their studies.

I have vast experience of working on MSRC, having held previously committee roles such as Year 2 Rep and co-secretary. Within these positions, I have helped to run events like the annual Medics Freshers Fair, organised successful school of medicine merchandise sales, and also hosted our yearly Worslsey Awards! My dedication to MSERC has been recognised in awards, such as MSRC Rep of the Term, and I am confident I can continue to work effectively with the new committee next year to improve the amazing research scheme implemented last year.

I understand that getting involved in research during medical school can seem quite daunting. I am passionate about leading the MSRC research scheme to help alleviate these concerns. As someone who has co-authored two systematic reviews during medical school, I am well placed to understand the initial difficulties of securing a research project. However, I hope I can use my experience of securing these projects to help build an effective research scheme that allows students to feel comfortable engaging in research alongside their studies.

To improve upon the fantastic new research scheme next year, I would like to introduce teaching sessions in collaboration with other medical societies that introduce students on the research scheme to basic research skills (e.g. completing a literature review and sensitivity analysis). This should help students to feel more confident approaching their research projects. I will also aim to locate research projects for students from a variety of different medical specialities, allowing students to explore their clinical interests.
