Hi, my name is Ali and I nominating myself for PALS Co-Lead this year.

As a dedicated medical student, I am eager to join the PALS team. Peer guidance has greatly enriched my education this year throughout gateway, and I am committed to supporting others similarly next year.

I believe in the power of peer-to-peer education to deepen understanding and foster a supportive learning environment. Teaching through peer assisted learning is very useful as it allows those who have had the same experiences to shed insight on their studies. My goal is to help peers tackle challenging concepts and share effective study techniques I have picked up this year. With a solid grasp of the key subjects from gateway and a passion for teaching, I am ready to assist fellow peers in reaching their academic goals.

Through this scheme, I aim to create an inclusive space where every student feels empowered to excel, enhancing our collective learning and building a strong community of future healthcare professionals. I have previous experience tutoring students as a pastoral prefect and undertaking other educational roles in my previous studies. I look forward to hopefully joining the PALS team and would be thrilled if you would chose me as PALS Co-lead

Hi! During this year, I have hugely benefitted from PALS and would love to be able to gain the opportunity to likewise help the next cohort! I aim to bring across my leadership and communication skills from my previous experience in teaching through extracurricular activities. Hence, I believe I possess the skills to make a great Gateway co-lead!

Attending the Gateway PALS sessions this year allowed me to benefit from the help offered by those in the year above and I believe that I can also support and guide others during their Gateway year too. As an enthusiastic tutor who teaches various subjects, I believe that I have the skills to support and guide the next Gateway cohort with their studies by listening to their concerns in order for them to reach their full potential.

Hi! I’m Malaika. As a gateway student I understand the importance of learning from peers, especially those in older years. Having attended many PALS sessions myself I felt the true extent of the help they provide, and in the following year I would love to be able to provide the same help that I received. Having mentored students in the past and being part of a revision club for younger students, I believe I have the required skills to truly make a difference for the next gateway cohort!

Hello! My name is Sufia and I would love to be a PALS Co-Lead next year. I enjoy teaching, as it is a useful skill that not only helps those being taught but also allows me to develop my communication skills. I am also looking to be more involved within Medical Education and feel that this is a good opportunity to start developing my interest.

I have a variety of experiences of teaching. This year I have been a Language Leader, helping international students to practice and improve their spoken English. I believe this role helped me to develop my organisational skills because I had to balance assignments alongside planning and conducting the language sessions. This experience has also encouraged me to find creative ways to help people understand difficult phrases/terms and plan lessons that are engaging and accessible.

I also volunteer at a youth charity and run workshops and tutoring to help the children in GCSE/A-Level Biology and English, which provides me with a relatively strong background in the content and skills needed for Gateway.

Overall, I am confident that I will be able to positively impact the next cohort of Gateway students and contribute to making the transition easier for them.
