Hello my name is Miranda and I would love to be costume/merch rep.

I joined the society in September as I wanted to continue ballet but did not think anything could top my experience of ballet growing up. I had the most incredible ballet teacher from the age of 4-18 who is still my mentor who made a huge impact on me.

You will find me at Tuesday higher intermediate, improvers pointe and inter show 2. Joining the society has been my best decision I made since coming to Leeds, it makes me so happy going to my classes each week, seeing myself improve and I have met some of my best friends through this society.

Merch and costume rep would give me the chance to give back to the society which has had huge impact on my first year at Leeds. Merch is an important part of our identity as a society and costumes are essential to a show. It would be such a privilege to have responsibility for developing merch and providing costumes.
I loved the LUU Ballet on Broadway show, it was such a lovely end to the semester to spend so much time with everyone backstage and to perform dances we had worked so hard on. I would love to be responsible for the costumes for next years show.

Hello, I'm Hannah, and I'm a fresher and I would die to be costume/merch rep for ballet.

I currently do lower intermediate classes and performed in the ballet on Broadway show and loved every second of it and will definitely be getting involved in any opportunities next year. Therefore, I'd love to play a part in elevating other people's experiences in the society.

I'd like to think I'd be a good candidate for this position because I have grown up doing musical theatre and helping out behind the scenes fixing and helping piece together costumes. I would never commit any fashion crimes or publicly humiliate anyone on stage by putting you in an ugly costume. I pinky promise.

My aims would be
- be a great communicator to ensure everyone is in the loop.
- make lovely merch such as sweatshirts, joggers, t-shirts or water bottles with beautiful designs you will all love.
- be a friendly faced gal to approach with any queries/ worries/ suggestions
- work hard to make sure everything is affordable!!!

The dream is for the ballet logo to be so recognized on campus that if you wear it, people will come up and ask for an autograph.

Hey I’m Liv, I currently do the intershow 2 and Sunday lower inter technique classes. I’ve really enjoyed being part of the show team this year as I love performing: learning a routine, dressing up, feeling the buzz of nerves and excitement backstage, and performing with my friends. I love the ballet society (from the talented teachers, to the friendly dancers, and my overall love for dancing), I’m always proud to rep our society in our merch. I would love to give back to the society that always works so hard to create a fun inclusive environment, which is why I would love to be next year’s costume/merch rep to continue the fab job from last year and to add my own ideas, I would appreciate your consideration.

As someone who is neurodivergent, I understand the struggle of feeling uncomfortable in a costume but not feeling able to say anything. I would like to expand our inclusivity of costumes: offer a choice of a wider range of styles so everyone feels their best (strappy, or short sleeved, or long sleeved tops; short skirts, or long skirts, or shorts, or trousers). Something I would like to add to our costume inclusivity is an option for dancers to express any barriers to costumes so they can be accommodated for: for example limitations due to physical disability or sensory issues or modesty. I’m really excited to find us all costumes that complement both us and the dances, having grown up dancing on stage wearing almost everything you can imagine (from tutus to a cat to Kermit the frog to a 3-piece suit), I’d say I’m more than qualified to create a look that will be effective on stage. Alongside finding new costume pieces, I believe sustainability is really important so we should continue to use what we already have (when fitting) and complement them with additions/accessories so every look is unique.

In addition to costumes, I’d love to cast my creative eye over the merch collections and add my own ideas to the already fab range. Having researched possibilities, I would love to add dancewear merch to our collection including Leeds ballet branded leotards, personalised dance bags, and reusable water bottles. I think this would be a cute way to create a sense of identity in class.
I would also love to add more everyday pieces to our collection to be able to rep our society more casually. I’ve prototyped a new design that I hope you’ll all like: my aim is to create a collection that looks like clothes you can buy in a shop but also show our identity as a society.
One final idea I have is to create show packs with show hair kits (hair pins/grips, mini hairspray cans, and bun nets), and general bits and bobs (safety pins, deodorant, etc). Shows can be stressful to prepare for and I always forget at least one thing so I think being able to get a pack of essentials in the run-up to or during shows would make show preparation easier.
