Hey! I’m Shya Bains, a first year who spends way too much time in the design studio. If elected as your Treasurer, I’ll make sure that you never have to worry about behind-the-scenes finances and can instead enjoy participating in the socials and events our amazing committee puts together.

I’ll work closely with the union to keep events affordable for student budgets while still making sure they’re fun and worthwhile. On the technical side, I’m an avid planner with budgeting experience from my internship, plus I keep veryyyyy detailed Notion pages for everything. This means all transactions, budgets, and financial records will be well-organised and ready whenever statements or reports need to be submitted.

One thing I’d also like to introduce is working alongside the PDES department to explore services, products, or materials we may need (for example, additional 3D printers), and researching their costs to see what’s possible.

I’ve really enjoyed being part of the PDES society and meeting people from all years. It’s given me a space to share my passion for product design, connect with amazing people, gain valuable advice, and create lasting memories. I’d love the opportunity to work with the rest of the committee to plan events, workshops, and more, with all finances taken care of.
