My name is Keshav Krishnan and I am a second year medical student. I would like to apply for the role of Clinical Years Representative.
I am incredibly enthusiastic about surgery, having gained an insight into the field through attending many fantastic Cutting Edge events over the last two years, including the SCTS conference, EXCISE conference, suturing workshops, and specialty series talks. From school, when I have organised music and sports events, and co-led projects in a youth-led healthcare research group named YPAGNE, I have continued to refine my organisational skills this year through co-organising Cutting Edge anatomy revision sessions in my role as pre-clinical year rep, including the first DR room teaching session Cutting Edge has ever ran. Contacting multiple surgeons to try and recruit for the Diversity & Inclusion conference, emailing anatomy staff about anatomy teaching sessions, and contact with doctors leading the Simplifying Surgery teaching series, have all enhanced my outreach skills; important when getting medical students involved in events, and catering OSCEs sessions and surgical skills sessions to students’ needs. Additionally, having access to year group chats on Messenger and WhatsApp mean I can easily communicate with the whole year group and advertise events. I am very interested in teaching, having helped out with WAMS (the Widening Access to Medicine Society) in the past, and more recently PALS teaching sessions for first years. I have lots of new ideas for next year, including a 5-week structured suturing course taught by surgeons, covering different suture techniques each week, similar to a course I attended this year run by BIMA/BISA (British Indian Medical/Surgical Association). I am a hard-worker as well as a team player. I have been a part of many teams including school and university cricket teams, my school medicine society, YPAGNE, and being lucky enough to be a part of this past year’s committee. Here I have worked together with others to come to shared outcomes, and developed vital communication skills I can carry into the role of Clinical Years Rep. I always strive to be as good a team team player as possible; something which is incredibly important with any committee role. This year I provided help outside of my pre-clinical year rep role, advertising the Simplifying Surgery teaching session, Global Health research & surgery talk, and helping out with the GIAG. I have really enjoyed being part of such a stimulating, engaging committee this year, and would love to continue being a part of it next year, with Clinical Years Representative hopefully being a great next step for me.

Hello, my name’s Sumaiyah and I am currently a second-year medical student. I would like to obtain a position as one of the clinical reps for Cutting Edge next academic year. I have a strong passion and interest for surgery and envision a future in this field of medicine. Therefore, I will contribute my best efforts to this society in terms of event planning, organisation, teamwork, and contribution of ideas.
I was previously an events rep for LRMMS (awarded ‘Best New Society’ by The Worsley Awards) which required strong organisational and teamwork skills. I helped plan and organise events and assisted in teaching sessions. I aim to transfer and utilise these skills as a clinical rep for Cutting Edge.
I believe I would be a strong clinical rep for Cutting Edge and will contribute my best efforts to this role. Thank you for your time!
