Hi Everyone, my name is Andrea Byfield and I will be entering my 4th year. I have been on the Cutting-Edge committee this year as the secretary. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time on the committee this year and all my years as a member of the society. I would like to take on a larger role in the society and become the president. This year our committee has introduced lots of new initiatives for our members including teaching on surgical core conditions for third years. As president I would want to expand educational schemes such as this to benefit students in other years with teaching that they may need.
I would work hard to get our mentorship scheme up and running again to ensure our members are able to have a surgical mentor that they can attend theatres with when possible. I would also like to bring back in person events such as laparoscopic surgical skills and IMS and EMS revision sessions for our first- and second-year members to attend. I would also be interested in us running collaborations with other societies to allows us to best provide teaching to our members.
The work of our committee this year lead to us winning best society at the Worsley awards and I would love to take over as president and continue the great work.
