Salaam! Hi!

My name is Malaika, and I’m currently a student here at the University of Leeds. I have experience working with varied communities across the city, and have impeccable people, and organisational skills. Given my previous experience within PSG (volunteering at all events this academic year), my passion towards activism, and my ability to put together events seamlessly, this role feels well-suited to my current abilities.

My commitment as an activist, ally, and ardent supporter of the Palestinian cause has prompted me to apply for the role of Events Co-ordinator as I aim to create an environment through which we can actively celebrate Palestinian culture, and bring about change through regular action on this campus.

I have attended numerous rallies and marches, and have been an active member within the city and on campus in helping to jump-start events, and aid in their organisation. Recently, I helped run the ‘Roses for Gaza’ stall (twice!) in the Union, raising over £630 for Gaza. I have also previously aided in the organisation of weekly Chai and Chat events that occurred within PSG – fostering a space in which we could discuss not only political action on campus, but communicate + socialise with one another – something I feel is evermore important right now, with student support at the forefront.

Furthering from activism, as events coordinator I aim to listen and amplify ideas amongst students, and bring them to life within a safe setting where we can all discuss, experience, and appreciate Palestinian culture and heritage.
Creating friendships within the Palestinian community and across the board has allowed me to dedicate myself to the Palestinian cause, and I can guarantee that being on committee will only enhance the action I have already committed to. I recognise the importance of collaboration and communication in executing successful events and as coordinator, I will work closely with fellow PSG members, leveraging our collective strengths to ensure each event leaves a lasting impact. Moreover, I am dedicated to creating spaces where the voices of all PSG members are heard, fostering an environment that encourages active participation and collaboration.

Whether I am successful in attaining this role or not, I remain steadfast and committed to the cause, and you’ll undoubtedly spot my red hair at any event. Together we can help create a safe space on campus, and come together as one, united in our appreciation, acknowledgement, and fight for freedom.
