Hi! I’m Haifa, and I’m going into my third year studying Genetics, with plans to pursue Medicine afterwards :)

Although I only joined Bedside Buddies this year, it’s already become one of the highlights of my university experience. I’ve loved meeting both the children and other members of the society, and it’s shown me how important supportive and positive environments are for children in hospital settings. It’s been such a rewarding and meaningful way to get involved.

I also have previous committee experience as Social Media Secretary for Baking Society, where I helped run social media, created a TikTok page, and worked with the committee to organise fun socials and events. I’d love to bring the same creativity, organisation, and positive energy to Bedside Buddies by helping create engaging events and a welcoming environment for members.

Hiya everyone!!!
My name is Anne, and I’ll be going into 3rd year Medicine this September. I’m really excited to be running for Social Secretary for Bedside Buddies!
I’ve always loved paediatrics because I think there’s something incredibly rewarding about working with children and helping bring comfort, positivity and a sense of normality to what can be a difficult hospital experience. I also think Bedside Buddies is such a valuable society because it not only helps children in hospital, but also gives students meaningful experience in a clinical environment and the chance to build confidence, communication skills and friendships along the way.
This year, I was also part of the committee for LUMPS — the Leeds University Medics Paediatrics Society — which has given me experience working within a committee, organising activities and helping create a welcoming environment for members. I’d love to bring that experience into this role.
Outside of medicine, I love singing and musical theatre, and I’m also quite sporty. I enjoy badminton, swimming and rounders in the summer, so I’m definitely someone who enjoys socialising, meeting new people and bringing positive energy to a team.
As Social Secretary, I’d work hard to organise fun and inclusive socials where everyone feels welcome and has the chance to connect outside of volunteering. Whether that’s relaxed socials after sessions, themed events or group activities, I want to help create a supportive community within Bedside Buddies. I’m organised and reliable, so I’d also feel confident arranging events, booking rooms, advertising activities through posts and story content, and working closely with the wider committee to organise funding and equipment.
Most importantly, I want to help make Bedside Buddies a society where members not only gain valuable hospital experience and support children, but also genuinely enjoy being part of the community.
