Hi I’m Chloe, a 3rd year Food Science and Nutrition student currently on placement. Last year I was social sec in the society, and I also ran the social netball team as well as coached. I’m excited to throw my hat in the ring to be elected for 1st team captain next year! I think I would be great at this role because I have extensive cricketing experience including playing for Warwickshire County age groups from age 13 to university, playing for the MCCU team for two years and previously captaining my club team at home. An example of my unwavering commitment to captaining a team? Picture this: Regional U19 finals. Big day. I crash my car on the way to the match. (Minor detail.) But did I turn around and go home? Absolutely not. I showed up, padded up, despite the chaos, ended up being the highest run scorer with a mega 9 runs. I’m also a qualified level 2 cricket coach, safe guarder and first aider. Next year I promise to try and lead us to victory across all fields, we will be bleeding greener than ever before, celebrating the wins with pints, pimm’s and maybe Alice’s missing cheesecake? I am fully dedicated to improving our team’s performance, through extra training hours, introducing a few sessions where we can talk tactics and starting weekly strength and conditioning sessions for our winter training squad.
As captain I will ensure that every match is entered with a well thought out plan. I believe I have a good ability to read a game and make informed decisions about how to progress under pressure. I also believe it is so important to create a supportive environment whereby everyone feels comfortable and not judged, in turn increasing confidence.
I would love to work with other committee members to promote women’s cricket and women in sport. In particular, Development sec to help develop a better pathway for beginners to progress into advanced sessions, as well as Fixture sec to coordinate with match arrangements. While charity work isn’t in the captain's job description, I’m keen work with charity to support causes that promote women in sport. I’d love to work alongside the Charity Sec to strengthen our ties with 'Her Game Too' and explore opportunities with charities such as 'Chance to Shine'.
To conclude I am confident in my cricket skills, match expertise, ability to lead a team and destroying Beckett in varsity and I hope after reading this you are confident in my ability to do this too- xoxo Chloe.
