Cricket has always been in my family, my Grandfather playing national, my Dad playing for his school, both my cousins playing for their university. Just had to prove what they can do, I can do ten times better because they’re not in UOLWCC. I am more than grateful for the opportunities granted by this wonderful club which has been like a home away from home. There is nothing my family do better than charity #howzat.

Living in South Africa allowed me to work with charities that helped in townships due to the poverty faced by those disadvantaged. I have swum a mile for the animal welfare charity TEARS and raised R3000 (£150), then last year for my 18th birthday I swam another mile for ActionAid and raised £200. This money went towards helping young women in war torn countries with necessities like period products and clothes. Charity has always been apart of my life and has led me to strive to help others in all aspects of my life – including my friend in men’s cricket who stumbles out of Popworld every Wednesday. Which is why, I want to be your welfare and charity sec 25/26.

During charities week in my sixth form, I helped organise the different events to ensure we raised money for our charities (like Banbury Young Homeless Project) and was the Charities ambassador. I worked with Banbury Young Homeless Project before, doing a food bank to help. Alongside this, I worked in a Ukraine help centre and organised care packages that would be sent to them. This allowed me to lead a group of young people to ensure that the best was being given.

I have worked as a lifeguard, and in doing so I have helped the elderly during their athletic sessions, helped people of all abilities enjoy the leisure centres . I am a fiend for badminton, and I fear they knew it. I am still a cricketer at heart but any sport involving a bat or racket does attract me. Working with people, has allowed me to take part in a team to create a positive impact on the community surrounding us. And we love the community around us don’t we?!? My ideas going forward is to work practically within the community, such as helping in a soup kitchen and or volunteering at a dog shelter every few weeks. This would allow for us all to actively give back to our community and allow the new Freshers to be welcomed into a club that helps the people surrounding us.

I would bring forward coffee mornings and more sober socials – doing welfare check ins as I know what it feels like to be anxious in a new place and situation. These coffee mornings would allow for everyone in the club to talk about any issues they have had recently. Alongside this, there would be welfare Wednesday – where a theme is brought to light to the club and talked upon (such as Breast Cancer awareness, how to deal with anxiety joining a new club, movements impacting women as of recent, etc). I feel this would allow new people to the club to gain more confidence, and take part in sober socials just as much as Wednesdays (the best night in my opinion). I would also work with the kit and sponsorship sec to get a sponsorship from Opening Up Cricket. This charity focuses on mental health and the positive impacts of cricket!

I love this club as much as I love my own family and couldn’t wish for anything better than to treat you ladies to looking after puppies and more sober socials. #bleedgreen

Hello you lovely ladies!
I want to start off by thanking you all for making up my absolute fav memories from my first year here in Leeds – I really don’t stop talking about you guys EVER, to the point my family have put a ban on me talking about cricket… they obviously don’t bleed green like I do.
It has been a privilege to tell people that I am apart of women’s cricket and I would love to give back to the society that has provided me with so much love and happiness. I am also so grateful to the club for giving me an excuse to procrastinate my uni work on Wednesdays and a reason to not turn up to my 9am seminar on Thursday mornings #rough.
I would absolutely cherish the opportunity to be your Welfare and Charity secretary for 25/26!!! Coming from a family with such a committee legacy I feel a duty to continue the Howzat’s iconic heritage.

I truly understand the significance of charities and the work they do due to studying poverty and disadvantaged groups in my degree and coming from a family with a disabled member; charity has been a big part of my life and has supported me and my family. Think we can all agree charities are blumming awesome!!! I have previously worked with my local community to package and send donations to Ukrainian refugees crossing the border into Poland – meaning I have experience in working in a team with a heavy social responsibility to help those in need. If I were to be your next charity and welfare sec I would organise a range of enjoyable and rewarding charity events and fundraisers that would guarantee us all a spot in cricket heaven where we only hit sixes and every day is a Wednesday. Additionally, as a Yorkshire woman local charities are close to my heart, therefore working alongside organisations making a difference in our community would be a priority of mine. And OF COURSE supporting charities centred around empowering and encouraging women in sport because what is the only thing better than Popworld… BEING A WOMAN!!!

I also understand the responsibility that comes with supporting your welfare. My experience of being the Disabilities and Mental Health Officer in my Sixth form means I have the skills to act as a point of contact for those struggling and raising awareness for how to look after ourselves on the days that may feel more difficult. There was also a lot of communicating with my fellow students in that role – therefore I would carry this through to this position where I would continually listen to all the club members in order to organise welfare events everyone can benefit from. I was very anxious before the first few of my socials, the prospect of taking part in a sock-off kept me up at night to the point my feet have never been in a better condition through the fear of having to whip them out (so thank you Roisin and Bella for my nice feet?). However the overwhelming feeling of sisterhood and kindness in the club gave me a sense of confidence that I will be forever grateful for!!!! Often times I come home from a Wednesday with my cheeks aching from all the laughing and smiling I’ve done (that’s so cringe soz guys). So I would LOVE to make all the freshers feel the UOLWCC love and be a friendly face they feel comfortable turning to. Socials can seem intimidating, therefore being available to have a chat, laugh and listen to all you lovely lot and the next generation of freshers would be a privilege. I know that myself and many others enjoyed the Rudy’s sober social so you could expect much more of that to come – who doesn’t love a coke with no vodka in… (not me but I’ll make that sacrifice).

I really can’t thank this club enough for all the AMAZING experiences and people it has given me, I really owe this club the world. If I do not get the Welfare and Charity position please take this as my appreciation of how amazing you all are; to be the reason a fresher felt confident enough to come to a Friday training or a Wednesday social would be a goal that I would work so hard to achieve.

I LOVE WOMENS CRICKET! It goes without saying that wednesday is most of our favourite day of the week, the unwavering commitment (occasssionaly overcommittment, #guilty) reflective of that. Although my Thursday seminar leaders would not agree, I have 0 regrets because without Wednesdays I would not have met so many of you lovely fershers!! I am so excited to meet all the new freshers next year, and as someone who really struggled finding my ground in first year it would make me so happy to be a point of call for all of you lovely ladies and all the silly little freshers that are lucky enough to stumble upon this pretty cool club.

I know not everyone enjoys the drinking side of things, and the sober socials this year have been so #fireemoji why would we not want MORE next year (is 1 million enough?). Plus who doesnt’ love an excuse to have a coffee and a yap? Another pizza? Well hell yeah!
I have a few ideas that i will discuss more in the agm, however 🚨spoiler alert🚨may be 3 peaks / reconnecting with nature inspired.

This being said, some of my favourite memories of this year have been attending the non-wednesday orientated events, from the spinathon, Christmas dance (did not enjoy the photographer however), to the charity netball tournament with mens cricket, I’ve loved every minute spending time with all of you. Special shoutout to the three peaks, so rewarding even if it did take me out for the next 3 business days😩😩😩. These events are so important not just in what they do for charity, but also in building relationships between all of us in the club. I would love to have a hand in organising these next year and recreating that supportive and fun atmosphere this club emulates so well. Amelia has done such an amazing job finding and organising the charity events this year, to carry on her legacy and encourage as many of you to be there as possible would be a privilege.

Although it may not be evident, I have actually been playing cricket since I was 8. When we first started at our local club the number of girls were few and far between, especially in comparison to the boys, so when I came back as a coach a couple years later to see that number had grown exponentially (big word) I felt so proud of our little club and all the girls I’d grow up playing with. Therefore I truly understand the importance of women in this sport having a voice and supporting each othe. It would be an honour to work with hergametoo and maintain/futher the reltaionship we already hold with them.

As a club we are already charity baddies, so delighted to be running with so many of you in for the marathon/half for leeds women aid in just under 2 weeks!! Lowkey never thought i’d see the day, would like to take a moment to thank strava for assisting me through this journey xoxo
However, there are so many local charities (eg. leeds mencap) that we could work with next year and there is always more to give.

This club is hands down the best part of my uni experience, never a dull moment and I would love nothing more than to give back to the club that has given so much to me. That being said no matter what happens I’m just happy to be a part of such an amazing society #boundbywicket #foreverbleedinggreen
