Hi again! I’m Miranda, a second year Computer Science student and your current Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Secretary. I’m excited to be re-running this year - I’ve had a great experience the past year meeting lots of you at socials, getting more women and gender diverse people involved with the society and making sure our events are safe, fun and open to everyone. It’s been a valuable opportunity to learn how the society runs and what you all as members want to see, and I’m really enthusiastic to take this forward and expand our inclusivity even further. We’ve run some amazing socials this year and I’d love to build on this by setting up weekly pub socials where you can meet new people, catch up with friends and optionally play some casual games. I want this to be a social that absolutely everyone feels welcome at, whether you drink alcohol or not, know lots of people in the society or no-one at all, want to find people who share your compsci-related hobbies or would rather talk about anything but your degree!

I also know how difficult it can be applying for placements and jobs if you’ve been overlooked for opportunities in the past and don’t have the experience other candidates might have if they're lucky enough to have connections in the industry. I want to change this by setting up a CompSoc dev team - a volunteer self-organising group of society members that makes useful software tools for other societies within LUU, giving you practical experience in any and all aspects of the software process, whether you want to try out programming for real-world use, project management, design, client interactions, or anything else you can think of. You’d get acquainted with the tools, techniques and methods used in the industry working in a team to produce a software product, within the supportive environment of CompSoc. I’d love to get people of all backgrounds on the team, making the job application field a little more equal and hopefully getting more people involved in an area of computer science that they enjoy.

Hiya, my name is Mark and I am running for the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion secretary position. My goal is to foster an environment that will allow every member feel welcome and valued and to allow individuals to be empowered to fully participate in the society's events and activities.
As someone of an Asian background, I understand the challenges that cultural diversity can sometimes bring in social settings. However, I believe that a society's strength lies in its diversity. So if I am elected as EDI secretary, I will aim to build and foster a vibrant environment for all members to feel welcomed and included. I will strive to create opportunities to ensure no one feels excluded and that everyone can fully enjoy their time here and make new friends.
Last year, I served as the social secretary for the Surf society in which I organised events that ensured all members , regardless of backgrounds and identities, felt comfortable and included. Using this experience, I aim to implement initiatives that would amplify experiences and participation in the society.
I hope that you too believe that embracing our community's diversity will allow us to grow into a more vibrant, and united society. If you share this vision, I humbly ask for your support in this election so we can work together to make this an inclusive, welcoming space for all.
