CompSoc needs change!!!
Despite the success the CompSoc had in the past, it's not enough. One of my main reasons for choosing the University of Leeds was its dedicated computing society. Unfortunately, it was far from what I had expected from a computing society.

At present, it is everything but a COMPUTING society. As a computing society, just a few socials events aren't enough. All through it's fun and everything, but where is the creative and innovative aspect of being a COMPUTING society? Where is the platform for its members to explore and broaden their talent? Where's the platform to form our uni's ICPC (one of the most prominent programming contests in the world) team? Currently, we even lack a platform for the members to chill and chat without being bombarded with scam messages!! Not to mention, we don't even have a website! Even many other societies completely unrelated to computing have excellent dedicated websites to showcase themselves(which is good for them), but it is a shame for us as a COMPUTING society not to have such a basic feature!! It definitely doesn't look professional.

Here is what my vision of CompSoc:
I aim for at least one CS festival a year. It's not like a regular social or competition/hackathon, rather two or three days/a week to explore CS and its brunches through various competitions and events, which can involve competitive programming, project showcases, and also line-following-robots and soccer bots to attract students from different courses (e.g. mechatronics, mechanical engineering) to raise further funds from the registration fee as a result of more participants.
Moreover, we will have weekly or monthly competitions for those who want to improve their skills in competitive programming, such as ICPC.
Also, we will have a dedicated website to showcase our events and also sell event tickets. Also, I plan to introduce a new sub-committee whose only responsibility will be to gather tech news and publish it on a dedicated blog page on the new website so that all students can stay updated with recent tech news. Not to mention a spam-free WhatsApp and/or Discord community for everyone to chat. I want CompSoc to have more Computing-related events, which means just a bit less of other types of activities, but at least we can proudly call our society a COMPUTING society.

Being a president is not about fame or ruling a society. It's about responsibility. And anyone who ACTUALLY knows the true meaning of RESPONSIBILITY will never voluntarily take it upon themselves. But someone must always step up for other's sake. If you think someone else is more capable of taking CompSoc to its well-deserved glory, then I encourage you to give them the opportunity. However, if you believe in my reimagination of the CompSoc and want to see it as a reality, I would gladly take on the responsibility to make CompSoc as great as it deserves.

What leadership experience I have you say? Before moving to the UK, I used to study CS at a different university. There, I have successfully organised many CS events and maintained the Computing Society. So, I get to bring my multicultural background, international experience and a range of ideas to the committee.

Hey, I'm Aodhan!

I was one of the social secretary's from last year's committee.
Last year, I was able to bring a range of socials and new ideas to the society from the Pixel Bar gaming tournaments to the three fridge-to-fridges (one of which was partnered by Jägermeister!) and even the return of the CompSoc Summer Ball.

This year I'm running for president with the aim of making the society bigger and better than ever before.

I want to keep the momentum gained from the last year and build on top of it. As president, I promise to keep the society as social as possible, seeing the return of popular socials and the implementation of new ones both big and small, to cater to everybody.

I will also ensure the society stays true to its academic roots and organise a variety of industry and networking events to boost opportunities for students on the course or with any interest in computing.

So vote for me if you'd like to see the success of CompSoc continue and go even further beyond!
