Hi my name is Bella and I would love to be the next female sports secretary for Physoc. I am a first year studying Physics with Astrophysics but have always enjoyed sports on the side. I have danced for 15 years, played football for 10 and have engaged in other sports such as netball, triathlons, mountain biking and tennis multiple times throughout my 18 years.
I strongly believe that everyone should have a chance to play sports no matter the level they are at. When I started at Uni of Leeds I felt intimidated by Uni sports teams as they are often high level and require a lot of previous experience. This meant that I didn't join any, even after years of playing sports. I think that playing sports should be a welcoming and fun atmosphere, and that is my main aim.
As physics students we have much more time in lectures than many other courses and so playing sports should act as a release from work, whilst keeping us fit and helping students to make friends.
Within the last couple of months I have been working hard at establishing a physics girls football team, as it doesn't yet exist, and have managed to hold a few sessions already. Students have joined who have never played football before and have felt comfortable enough to come along and give it a go. Although I have not been a part of the physics girls netball team in the last year, I still strongly believe that I will be a great sports secretary as I am a very organised and dedicated person. I thrive by making sure people are having fun and enjoying their time on and off the pitch and believe in fairness throughout.
I would be honoured to be voted Female Sports Secretary for the next academic year and promise to provide an open and enjoyable atmosphere for all girls within physics to join!
