Hi everyone! I’m Sophie, and I’d love the chance to be your Welfare and Open Seat Rep for LAMMPS 2025/26.

LAMMPS is a society full of creativity, friendship, and support. I’ve personally experienced how encouraging and uplifting both the LAMMPS committee and the wider society are, and I would be honoured to help keep it that way. I know what it feels like to be a little nervous when joining the society, especially as someone who isn’t naturally very outgoing, but I’ve really valued how approachable and welcoming everyone has been. As Choir Manager, I made this a main priority, which has prepared me well for the role of Welfare Rep.

I’m passionate about making sure every member feels heard, safe, and included, whether that’s through being a friendly face to chat to or helping signpost to support when things get overwhelming. If elected, I believe it will be important to establish clear routes for all members to access support or raise concerns. I also intend to work closely with the EDI Rep where our roles overlap.

As someone who cares deeply about both the emotional and practical wellbeing of those around me (as you’d hope l do as a medical student!), I’m ready to take on the responsibilities of Welfare Officer, completing any training required by the Union. I understand how important this position is, and I will prioritise attending GIAGs, rehearsals from all strands, and committee meetings to fulfil my duties to the absolute best of my ability.

I also love getting stuck in wherever help is needed, so I’m really excited by the flexibility of the Open Seat side of the role-whether that’s stepping in to support another committee member or lending a hand with behind the scenes tasks that keep everything running smoothly. My experience as Choir Manager has prepared me well for this, as it’s a role that also involves a variety of tasks: from setting up and organising rehearsals/ concerts to attending committee meetings... and, of course, most importantly, providing biscuits!

Ultimately, I want to help LAMMPS remain a place where everyone can relax and enjoy a break from their busy University degrees, knowing they’ve got someone in their corner if needed.

Dear LAMMPS Members,

My name is Rhys Llewelyn Williams, and I am running to be your Open Seat/Welfare Rep for 2025/26. After being a member of our esteemed LAMMPS Choir for four years, two years at the helm of said choir and having done my first ever LAMMPS show, this is the perfect time for me to take on a wider committee role.
Open Seat/Welfare Rep needs to be able to multitask and I have the experience to illustrate my ability to do so. I was MD of LAMMPS Choir for 2 years, a Choral Volunteer for the Leeds Cathedral and had a lead role in this year’s LAMMPS Show, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I held the role of Secretary of the Student Clinical Ethics Forum for 2024/25, a job mostly dedicated to the administration and organisation of the society.
My experience in handling both the creative with the administrative gives me a broad range of skills, perfect for an Open Seat representative.
Requiring a year of prior committee experience ensures the Open Seat/Welfare Rep understands the inner workings of each LAMMPS Strand and has built the relationships essential to the role. As someone who has been part of LAMMPS since my first term at university and served on the committee for two years, I believe I am well-placed to fulfil these rigorous demands.
My time at LAMMPS has been a highlight of my time at university and while I will not be running for Choir MD for a third term, I am not ready to leave LAMMPS and would very much appreciate the opportunity to serve the society further.
