Hey! I’m Freddie and I am running for secretary for the Muay Thai society next year. I believe I would be a good choice to be the secretary because of my dedication and determination. This winter I trained intensively and won gold in the open category for my weight at the Muay Thai University Tournament in March. I have been a volunteer at the Youth Forum at my local Children’s Hospital for 2 years as co-chair and have developed the skills to organise, record and plan future meetings. If I were elected as the future Muay Thai society secretary I would use the role to its fullest to help the society grow and thrive. I would make sure each meeting covers both social and fighting opportunities for everyone to get the most out of the society.

My name is Jemma Hughes

I study Politics and Philosophy, and I’ve been practicing Muay Thai for over 5 years now! I started my journey into martial arts for an improvement in self-defence, fitness and mental wellbeing!

I’ve also had a few other committee roles in the past, like secretary for my university accommodation committee in first year, president of coffee-soc and sponsorship-sec for Muay Thai last year.

One of my goals for my 3rd year after some personal hardships is to commit myself to just one committee role and immerse myself back into a martial art that helped me improve myself so much!

What I’d like to do as secretary for the committee this year is not only keep up with the responsibilities, like keeping track and on top of records for agendas, meetings, members, etc., but also bring an inclusive goal to the society.

I’d love to see more women get involved in the sport and feel safe enough to practice in a male-dominated area, as well as nurture the strong community within the society with our committee-planned events!
