Hello! My name is Erin Latham and I am a second-year Philosophy, Politics and Economics student at Leeds. I would love to be appointed Social Secretary for PhilSoc next year and I hope after reading my statement, you will agree that I would be a great fit for the role :).

Despite only beginning to get involved with PhilSoc in the second semester of my second year, I have found the society so inclusive and welcoming, and would love to get as involved as possible in my final year in Leeds. The wine and cheese nights provide a great environment for like-minded people to discuss and debate, but I feel more could be done to get us all together outside of the philosophical sphere, and this is where I would come in!

As a Fresh2Death rep, I have direct contacts with the organisers of club events such as Bobbies Disco, MixTape Project and Full Fat Thursdays, so could organise socials to these events. I am also a big lover of an Otley, and would organise a couple of these throughout the year, coming up with fun themes to give members the opportunity to meet for a pint or ten.

However, a big priority of mine as Social Secretary would be to organise frequent sober socials. I would love to run a weekly midweek tea and biscuit afternoon in the Union for all members to get some respite from work and come for a natter. I would also like to keep up the coffee mornings run in Hyde Park Book Club, and organise some evening out socials, such as bowling or movie nights. I think this would serve to bring the society closer and provide an inclusive and welcoming environment for freshers and older members alike.
