Heya everyone, I’m Ela and I am extremely keen to be your compe88on representa8ve for the next academic year. Being a fresher, I was terrified to rekindle my rela8onship with dance, due to having taken a 7-year break due to an intense back injury. However, it was the best decision I have made for myself. I think this is the essence of why I would excel as a comp rep. Put plainly, I care about this society above all else and although my degree is demanding and challenging, I am determined to balance LUU street as a massive priority.
I believe in the strength of communica8on within teams, and the importance of this when promo8ng change. Therefore, I’d like to pose a couple of ideas I have thought up and hope to implement as your comp rep next year! Firstly, I think we can all appreciate the importance of the Monday classes. I believe it is also important to remember that we don’t all have a background in street dance. Therefore, I hope to promote the idea of focused classes targe8ng specific styles of dance, based on a poll presented to the society (depending on what each individual feels they need to work on), hoping this will also boost the confidence of those of us who are new to this! And in turn boos8ng confidence when it comes to aOending audi8ons etc. as far as the compe88on category, I believe entry into non-university compe88ons would be massively beneficial, for example looking into entering UDO. To accompany us into these new environments, a team mascot would be absolutely essen8al!
This compe88on season was a rollercoaster of stress, fun, pressure and victory! I will work closely with the president and vice president to ensure that next year’s compe88on season will be full of even more fun (and hopefully victory). Results aside, the sense of community within a society moulds its performance, which I definitely learned this year. With that in mind, I am keen to pose the idea of more sober socials and chances to get to know each other beOer, as I believe understanding one another promotes pa8ence and tolerance which are essen8al during the stressful rehearsals that are inevitable in the run up to compe88ons. When it comes to this, I have a lot of experience. Due to my high-pressure lifestyle and my childhood full of compe8ng, I have gained deep knowledge of the importance of team rela8ons. I feel as though even in this short term, I have made friends for life and I would love to make that a reality to others within the society.
Finally, I intend on making the president and vice presidents jobs easier next year as I am aware of how challenging this is at 8mes. I will do this by being prompt with the admin needed during the season and remaining dedicated to carrying my weight within this amazing society.

Hi, I'm Cyntia (or Cyn 😝), and I'm running for competition representative for next year's LUU Street Committee.

For me, dance is more than just a physical activity: it's emotional, it's community, it's passion (and energy! and footwork!), it's discipline, and a love of music and movement fuels all of these things. If elected as comp rep, I will work with the other members of the committee to formulate fresh themes for the competion pieces, and I'd love to take us to some cool competitions too. Additionally, I'd like to incorporate more freestyle-oriented moments via open sessions to provide an extra space for our dancers to connect and explore freely.

Working collaboratively and constructively has always been vital for our team's success. I will collaborate with my co-comp rep and committee to ensure that we will put out amazing pieces for you all.

My dance experience is diverse, and my style is ever evolving: I started dancing about 5 years ago, and I have been competing for 4 years (2/4 were with LUU). In that time, I have trained and competed in various styles, from Locking to Hip-Hop to House and Litefeet. I'm also very familiar with the expectations and standards that are required for dance competitions. Having spent the past year in Germany, my dance training has expanded to incorporate more freestyling concepts, which has only enriched my perspective. I'd love to share the new ideas I've explored with our dance community.


Being new is never easy. Transitioning into a new physical and social environment is daunting. My priority will be to make Street a warm and welcoming home for those who need it, newcomers and veterans alike, the same way that it has always been for me.


Being a part of LUU Street has brought so much light and purpose to my university experience, and I genuinely could not imagine what Leeds would have been like without it. Being your comp rep would be such an indescribable honour ^o^

So, Leeds University, let's show 'em how we really be!!
