Hi! My name is Eve and I am running to be the intermediate competition team captain! I am a second-year economics student and I joined the intermediate team at the beginning of this year. After spending my first year online due to covid, I decided to audition to get more involved in the ballet society and I have had so much fun in the team. Learning the choreography and making friends with everyone in semester 1 was so fun before going to competitions across the country in semester 2! The atmosphere has been so friendly and welcoming, I felt so much more confident in my dancing skills by being part of the team. I would love the opportunity to increase my role by becoming the intermediate competition team captain.

I believe that I would be a great fit because I am friendly and good at communicating which will be essential for coordinating with the advanced team captain for our competitions, the social sec for social events, and with the teacher at the beginning of term. My organisational skills are good as well which means I will be organising to go to plenty of comps to continue our successes from this year! I want to continue to strengthen team spirit by making more opportunities for advanced and intermediate teams to meet in semester 1, before the season starts. I would also want to continue to strengthen our ties with the other dance competition teams from other societies, such as Modern and Irish, and continue the integration efforts from the Newcastle comp this year! I want to make the atmosphere as friendly and welcoming as possible and make sure everyone is well supported within the team during the competition season. I hope to be a friendly face for the intermediate competition team next year!

Hi, I’m Annabel and I am a first year economics student. Being part of ballet society this year has been one of the highlights of moving to Uni and I would love to have a more involved role within the society next year. I have thoroughly enjoyed being part of the Intermediate Competition Team this year. Travelling around England competing with our society against other unis has been such a great experience and will help me as team captain next year if I am elected. If elected, I will strive to continue the success we have had this year. However, it is not our competition success that has made being part of the team so enjoyable, but the attitude we have within our team to always enjoy rehearsals and have fun during competitions. Maintaining this approach is just as important to me.

I think I am well suited for the role of team captain because I am very organised and I am an effective communicator. I look forward to communicating with the team, to organise rehearsals etc., and with the Advanced team captain. Collaborating and planning competitions with the Advanced Team Captain would be something I would really enjoy! As well as this, I am approachable and if elected I would love to hear ideas from everyone throughout next year, about the team or ballet in general.

The spirit within the team has been great and the support we received at the competitions, not only from our society, but also other Leeds dance societies, such as Modern and Irish, this year was amazing! Because of this, I would love to continue the integration with these societies next year. I would do this by organising to attend as many comps as we can together, as my favourite competitions this year were the ones where we had multiple dance societies from Leeds in attendance. Another aim I would have if elected would be to make the audition process as relaxed as possible, as I know how daunting it can be as a fresher when you don’t know anyone yet. Additionally, I want to encourage as many people within our society already to audition, as there may be people who missed out on the opportunity this year who would be great for the team.

Overall, my enjoyment of competing this year and being part of our amazing society have been some of the main highlights of my first year at uni. I would love the opportunity to work hard next year with the rest of committee in making next year as good as my first has been.
