I’m Thea, and I’d like to run for Welfare because I have a real passion for helping people and I’d love to bring that to UML. I believe UML is an incredible society for making friends and meeting likeminded people, and it is so important to make sure it stays an inclusive and happy community. I’d really like to make sure everyone feels safe and listened to, and has an opportunity to voice their feelings in an open and supportive environment. I’d like to create an anonymous query box for the UML space or a google form where people can voice their opinions or express concerns openly and without fear of judgement. I’d also like to organise some wellbeing events throughout the year to help with friend-making and mental heath struggles.

My priorities:
• Consistency – upholding promises from the society (such as with attitude and behaviour) both within the committee and with members
• Confidentiality – allowing an outlet for you to speak your mind without feeling judged or afraid, with your safety coming first
• Communication – keeping you regularly informed, for example with timelines of when we expect issues to be resolved – there’s nothing worse than not knowing!

My experience:
• I have training in conflict mediation and resolution stemming from my experience as an assistant manager, and have worked with individuals to navigate problems within a larger group
• I’ve mastered email chain debates from the dozens of times I had to argue with my sixth form over access arrangements
• I’m a psych student (so you know I’m all about mental health awareness) (yes the stereotypes are true)

My promises:
• Work with the events sec to act as a point of contact for socials; if your night isn’t going to plan, or you’re nervous about going in the first place, I’ve got you!
• Speaking of events, I will help organise more team-based interactive socials, such as quiz nights and board games, to negate the alienation that can come with pub socials for newer members
• Monthly feedback surveys so we know where to improve as a society
• Set up an anonymous forum page for submitting ideas, questions, and concerns safely and judgement-free

I have more smaller ideas for UML next year, but these are my main focuses! I appreciate everyone's support a lot, and hope to be your 25/26 welfare secretary!
