Hi, im fatima and im from solihull, which you have probably never heard of, so let's just say it's near Birmingham. I started at Leeds as a medical student last year, so I can pretty much guide you through the ins and outs of the first term. I have obtained lots of knowledge not only about the course and Leeds itself, but also how to balance the demands of both medicine and personal and social wellbeing. As I had to take time off due to health reasons, I am still in touch with my friends and have contacts in older years from whom I can get useful insights and resources that will help our cohort succeed this year, both academically and socially as university, especially as a medicine degree is no easy undertaking for anyone! There are many reasons why I would like to be your first year representative: Firstly, as someone who has previously been a quiet person at school and not perhaps voiced my opinion, it is my personal goal to grow my strength of voice and this is a skill that I would really like to develop further and this role will allow me to do so. Also, I would love to represent the views of our cohort as it will allow me to make. a positive change for not only our year but also future medics. Honestly, there is nothing too fancy about me that I would like to put on here, but I just want to make one thing clear: im just one of you. One of you in a big new city who has somehow got a badge saying that 'first year medical student' and as cheesy as it sounds, for the next 5 years, we are all in this together and although it's going to be a tough one, I hope to make the start of it as comfortable as possible by ensuring that adequate changes are made following your concerns. I like to think im quite a friendly face to many, so can be approached any time and I'll be there to listen to your queries and thoughts and propose actions that can be taken to address them and follow them up as no problem is ever too small! I can promise you all one thing, if you vote for me as your first year representative, I'll certainly give it my all :) Thank you!

I would like to be one of our MSRC student representatives as I believe that everyone should feel comfortable notifying lecturers about any issues, as I appreciate that it can be daunting in a large lecture hall to ask queries and make requests to benefit our learning.
I would like to be able to help everyone feel comfortable to report any issues.
Furthermore, I am really good at editing any queries and reports to be more polite- so you can rest assured you aren’t coming across as potentially rude in an email (as tone is difficult to convey across emails).
Finally, I think this would be a great opportunity for me to get to know more people in our course year and be able to make more friends and acquaintances.

Hi my name is Laiba and I’m from London.
I’m a gateway alumni so I think it’s fair to say that I am quite familiar with the university campus and the systems in place. During my gateway year I’ve been a tutor at a company teaching biology chemistry and maths as well as interviews, along side this I am a young carer for both of my older siblings who have severe learning disabilities so I have learnt how to balance my commitments with my studies and still have time to do the things I like.
The reason I would like to be your year 1 MSRC rep is because I believe that I can offer support to fellow students by relaying information between students and lecturers very well, I can communicate with older years to organise some resources to be distributed amongst our year group that will be helpful to our studies, and I promise to always listen to any issues no matter how big or small they are try my best to work with people who can solve it. One question you might be asking, why would I want to do this stuff? What’s in it for me? Well to be honest I thrive off of responsibility, I like it when I have loads of things to do and especially when it’s to do with helping other people, there’s a huge element of reward within it which I’m willing to play around with my schedule for.
If you vote for me I promise to be as helpful as I can be in any way that is fit.
Thank you.

Hi I'm Aaron, I'm from Wakefield, which is a city just outside of Leeds. I am an enthusiastic and active person that is always up for a chat, a laugh or to be a listening ear. I do a lot of stuff outside of university of which include work as a youth worker and volunteer as a guide at Pinderfields Hospital and as a Scout Leader.
Having grown up around Leeds as well as being a Gateway to Medicine alumni, I have acquired plenty of knowledge, not only of the Leeds university campus but the demands and transition to university work and study. Knowledge that I believe will help me to support and improve your student experience and the student experience of those years to follow.
I am applying for this position as I understand the importance of being heard and the impact and change this can have not only on our experience but of the cohorts to follow. I en devour to listen to every individual so that everyone's voices are heard and subsequently appropriate action and change can occur.
Last year I had the privilege of representing the gateway cohort as one of the Gateway representatives, so I developed experience in representing the views and feedback from my peers at staff and MSRC meetings. As well as this I have had a vast amount of experience previously to representing the views of peers and colleagues alike:
I have been appointed as the chair of a youth management committee of a local youth charity, as well as being a youth representative on the board of trustees for 6 years on the same youth charity. I plan to use the communication and listening skills from these roles in this role to ensure that there is a clear and strong bridge between you (the student) and the year 1 staff team to ensure your voice is not only listened to but the appropriate changes are made to ensure your feedback is applied.
I believe that this role is not only about attending meetings, it is about listening to anyone and everyone and ensuring any and all problems, queries, comments, feelings and question are forwarded in a clear and concise way to the appropriate people and that they are followed up to ensure appropriate action is taken and that your voice is listened to.
I give 100% to everything I do and that also goes for supporting the people around me. So whether you just wanted to say hi, go for a climb at the Big Depot or you wanted some help, advice or just a friendly face to talk to; I hope you feel you can approach me and feel I am the right person to represent you as year one representative.

I know how many of us feel.
Two weeks into the Medicine course as year ones, it’s unequivocally, already challenging.
Having had the privilege to interact with so many individuals on the course, I’ve come to realise that I am not alone.
There are things we all find difficult, having started this course, and starting a whole new chapter in our lives.
Our year leads have made it very clear that help is available and will be offered to those who need it… this is something that really did resonate with me.
My word is my bond, and I promise, if I am successful with obtaining this role, I will connect with you. I will make you feel understood, and I will give you time, if you need, and I will help you.
I will put forward your concerns to the medical school, in a manner than is thorough, serving the best interests of you and the students in our cohort to effectuate better learning outcomes in your studies, and provide a more comfortable time for you here at Leeds.
Things can always be better, and I fundamentally believe that change can be well effectuated with your ideas. With fresh ideas.
I do believe that I am quite approachable, and if you feel that things can be better, or that things can be done differently to better serve your interests, I will uphold your desires and speak to the medical school about it.
So why should you entrust me with the role of being able to speak up for the best interests of the year group?
In the recent past, I have had several opportunities to hone my speaking, leadership and communication skills, whether this be through delivering speeches at schools, talks, being a member of Medsoc at sixth form, leadership roles, organising and managing competitions at school, and so much more.
Furthermore and most importantly, I have tremendous admiration and respect for doctors working in the NHS, individuals many of us home to live up to in the future.
I want this journey through medicine to be one that we all enjoy and find fulfilling, so that we can live up to being the diligent and successful doctors in the future that we all aspire to be, and I promise I will do what it takes to get us there.
I’m Ashmit Bhardwaj, running for first year representative.
Giving me your vote is sacred, and having it would be my absolute honour.
I will carry out my duties and take on every responsibility you throw at me with open arms and a smile on my face.
Thank you.

Hi everyone, my name is Adrees, and I’m from Bradford which is not far from Leeds.
I'm excited to nominate myself for the role of first-year medical representative. While I may not have previous experience directly voicing your concerns in an official capacity, I want you to know that I am genuinely committed to representing all of us and ensuring our voices are heard.
You may wonder why I'm pursuing this role. The answer lies in my belief in the strength of unity and collaboration. I aspire to play a part in shaping our educational journey, ensuring it goes beyond academics to encompass thriving together as a supportive and inclusive community. I'm aware that the role of a first-year medical representative involves advocating for your concerns and I am confident that my experience as a tutor has equipped me with the ability to listen, understand, and communicate effectively.
My experience as a tutor has had a significant impact on my journey as a medical student. I've had the opportunity to tutor GCSE and A-level students, helping them navigate academic hurdles and foster their development. This experience has enhanced my communication, empathy, and knowledge of the needs of students at various phases of their educational journey.
Through my role as a tutor and as a gateway student, I've gained a deep understanding of our shared journey, the challenges we encounter, and the importance of offering support when it's needed the most. I've developed the skills necessary to explain complex concepts and facilitate productive discussions—skills which are invaluable for a first-year medical representative to represent our voices effectively.
I am just starting my journey, but I see the role of a first-year representative as a chance to learn from all of you and make our time at university more than just studying. Your thoughts, ideas, and dreams matter, and I'll do everything I can to ensure they get heard and acted upon. Whether this is voicing your concerns to year 1 staff or if you just want to talk, I will be here for you all!!
I'm asking for your trust and your support in this. Let's work together to make our time at university memorable, rewarding, and transformative. Thanks for considering me for this role, I'm looking forward to speaking with you all and I am excited about what's ahead.

Hey guys, it’s been amazing to see you all. What a start to the year, I hope you’re all settling in well after freshers and making new friends. I’m sure this year will be amazing for all of you, but there will be times we’ll need help and someone to speak to. Being your rep, I’ll be ready to stand up for you and change things for the better.
So, onto the golden question, why should I be your rep?
Well, I have done stuff like this in the past, I was the school council lead in my school, I took students’ suggestions and met up with leaders in the school to get things changed. I helped academically, pastorally, sports-wise, music-wise and so much more. I loved the role and seeing how my actions helped others. Students also really liked seeing their ideas implemented into their school.
Coming back from COVID, I noticed certain year groups struggling to enter academic life again. I then led a mentoring scheme in my school – helping academically struggling students feel confident they knew everything. I paired each Year 10 student with an A-Level tutor and organised the scheme. Amazingly, everyone was caught up in 3 months!
Those of you that have spoken to me know that I am a friendly guy, I love to talk to people and have a laugh. This is important in a rep otherwise no-one’s going to come and tell me anything. I know it’s hard to find someone in a sea of heads, so I’ll always be contactable via email if you can’t talk to me face-to-face.
Personally, I’m from the Wirral near Liverpool. On top of my studies, I like to play badminton and football. I’ve written poetry and also won a couple of poetry competitions in Merseyside.
I believe I have the skill set required to stand up for you and will do anything in my power to solve a problem. I will listen to your ideas and concerns and convey them to the relevant member of staff in a thorough manner, to change the University environment for good. Everyone has different ideas and viewpoints - by embracing this, we can make sure Uni is as enjoyable as possible for everyone.
If you have any questions about how I’ll represent you, come and speak to me or email me (um23kp). With that said, I hope you all vote for me to represent you, and let’s have a great year ahead!
Thanks everyone,
Krishna
