I would be delighted to undertake the role of social secretary next year. This society has been one of the best things about my uni experience so far and I would love to become more deeply involved.
I feel I have the capacity to organize a wide range of events and understand different people's needs and interests. So far I have enjoyed the hikes, turkish tea visits, potlucks, movie nights, bonfire and general food related occasions. I would hope to keep the great events going but I also have a few ideas of my own. Such as: cinema trips, communal listening parties involving some sacred and Buddhist music/chanting, as well as an ot-tea run, a tour through the cafes and herbal tea vendors of Leeds. I am very open to ideas and group suggestions in events, but I will also seek to prioritise what I see as the foundation of the society: the welcoming community and the opportunity for beginning of seeing of hidden beauties within the overwhelm of daily mundane things.
I hope to maintain the immaculate vibes already in place - one of the foremost qualities of the society has been its openness and inclusion. It makes me happy to think that I may open to others the great feelings of joy, peacefulness and acceptance that I've felt myself.

Although I am currently on my year abroad, I cannot wait to rejoin society this September!! As Social Secretary, my top priorities will be kindness, empathy and inclusivity, ensuring that everyone feels welcome. I am always attentive to those around me, making sure that each person feels involved (whether you are here for deep spiritual growth, or to absorb the peaceful energy and momentarily forget that your to-do list is a disaster). The Buddhist and Meditation Society has given me the chance to have so many fun, beautiful and rich experiences, such as the Samatha retreat, to cherished tea-and-chat moments, sitting around a campfire, laughing and socialising with each other at parties, not to mention delicious meals at Dewan restaurant.
I cannot wait to bring more of these experiences to the community. Expect well-organised activities and gatherings that will bring everybody together in meaningful, creative and fun ways. With a genuine effort to cultivate and nurture what is an already-welcoming and vibrant atmosphere in the society, I would love to create a space where everyone can relax and connect with one another and the space around them, whether it’s through activities such as mindfulness walks, buddhist philosophy book clubs and sound-healing gong meditations, or other events like themed parties to let loose and dance the night away! Most importantly, I prioritise listening to everybody and incorporating their ideas, and so this role is, of course, not just about me, but about everyone working together in a collaborative space. I will always have open ears for everyone’s thoughts, and will be someone that you can approach if you ever have any questions or need support.
