Hey, I’m Issy and I’m a second year pharmacology student. I have been part of modern and ballet society throughout my two years at uni, easily being the best part of uni life. I’ve danced since I was 4 training in all styles and taken part in lyrical and tap classes throughout my 2 years and been lucky enough to compete in tap, lyrical, contemporary and ballet.
I’d work closely with the president, vice and secretary to manage class allocations ensuring the fairest decisions are made and do my best to enable everyone to have the chance to dance in the classes they love! With strong organisation skills, I’ll stay on top of allocations, absences, register updates and class switches, helping everything run smoothly. I’d also love to extend the role to start including additional stretch, conditioning and technique classes throughout the year especially when we’ve missed out on classes due to busy comp/ show seasons. I’d coordinate this with other committee members but also open it up to the whole society so everyone who wants a to get involved in the society can!
Above all, I would like to be a friendly and approachable person for you all throughout the year, someone you can come to with any questions or concerns and I’ll do everything I can to help.
This society has been a fundamental part of my uni experience, where I have formed my closest friendships - so I would love to have a greater involvement within the society in my final year!

Hi I’m Amelia and I would love to be class rep next year! I’m going into my 4th year with modern having spent the last 3 studying biomedical science and next year in a masters. I have taken tap, lyrical and jazz classes with modern and competed with tap and lyrical teams. I have been fortunate enough to have been able to co-choreograph two dances for comps this year, our tap trio and the intermediate tap team dance which has been the most enjoyable experiences so far.

As class rep I would love to implement the WhatsApp community which has been a great success for competition teams this year. Having group chats for each of the teams has been really helpful for discussing costumes, any time changes for rehearsals and for building relationships within the team. For classes, members can ask classmates about anything they maybe unsure of especially around shows for rehearsals and even to discuss self-provided costumes. If there isn’t a member of committee already in that class, a committee member should be added in the group chat to answer any questions that class members are unsure of but also to ensure that a respectful environment is maintained.

I would consider myself a very organised person (especially when it comes to dance) so I will remain on top of all class rep tasks including updating registers with absence forms, handling class changes and setting up new dancers into classes.

As a someone who commutes from home to uni every day, I truly understand how important dance societies are for our own wellbeing by providing friendship and relief from the pressures of uni life (although they can also come with their own set of pressures). Modern provides that relief through its welcoming and accessible environment that I have grown to love, as class rep I will be the friendly and welcoming face to continue to build modern’s welcoming nature.

I have had the best 3 years, and I really don’t think I would’ve got this far in my course if I didn’t have modern to keep me sane. I can’t think of any better way to spend another year with modern then as your class rep.

Hi! I’m Jess and I’m going into my second year of studying psychology. I’ve been dancing my whole life and have loved performing in pantos, dance shows and competitions before uni. Joining modern dance has been such a massive part of my first year experience, so I would love to join the Committee and continue building this positive environment.

As class rep, I would focus on creating an accessible absence form, making it as easy as possible for members to report absences. Furthermore, I will prioritise communication with members of the society, staying on top of wait lists to try to get as many people as possible in their desired classes.

As a fresher who is still getting to know the campus, the modern insta videos showing where each class was taking place was super helpful. As class rep, these would be a priority to help freshers or even returns locate their class spaces.

Classes this year have been such a positive and fun space for me to destress, and forget about any uni deadlines. A priority of mine would be to encourage this, working to promote an inclusive environment in each class. I think classes could benefit from a few introductory exercises during the first week, to allow new members to get to know existing members. This would build inclusivity, and bridge the gap between year groups.

Being a silly fresher this year has been so fun, but I’m so excited for next year, and hopefully becoming more involved in the society!!
