Hey, hey!! I’m Lily-May and I would love to be your merch rep next year!
I am currently a first-year student nurse. I have been a part of modern dance since the very beginning of my first year and auditioned for the tap competition team and this was by far the best decision I have ever made and have definitely met some amazing girls who have become such a big part of my life. Some of you may know me from inter tap or the tap competition team and will definitely be getting more involved in other classes next year, as well as hopefully design and create you some incredible 25/26 merch.
I have been lucky enough to compete in local and national competitions since the age of 2, such as All England. Since being young dancing has been a huge party of my life; being involved in classes most nights of the week, seasonal shows, as well as annually competitions and I wouldn’t change it for the world. Having the incredible opportunity to be a part of modern dance and their competition team has truly added to my uni experience, and I truly couldn’t think of anything better.
If I were to be your merch rep next year, I would love to create you all more affordable merch because who wouldn’t love a wardrobe of modern merch! I would do this by co-ordinating with some great suppliers who will be able to give high quality and comfortable merch at the best prices. I would also love to involve you all in designing the merch and choosing what style of clothes we would like! I think this would be great to ensure everyone loves the merch for this year and will be proud modern members wearing it! Further supporting comp and show reps in designing us t-shirts that are memorable for these events will be one of my top priorities, especially for Let’s Dance 2026!!
Another important part of creating modern dance merch next year would be ensuring there is clothes to fit everyone’s needs, such as short and long-legged joggers for example. I found this something I particularly struggled with in modern merch this year and would love to be something that can be improved this year to make merch accessible and fitting for anyone who wants it – because who wouldn’t love to rep the iconic glittery modern joggers.
Another goal that I would like to incorporate in our 25/26 merch is creating more styles of clothes for us within our modern merch. Some of the clothes that I would like to incorporate are leggings, I see a lot of these worn in class with modern t-shirts and hoodies, but we don’t have our own modern brand – why? Another set of items I would like to incorporate are shorts and sports bras, especially for our summer months. I think these would be an amazing addition to our merch collection as they can be worn to rehearsals, comps and even your weekly gym session, making them versatile for everyone and everything.
Finally for modern merch 25/26, I would love to create some fitted zip up jackets. I come from a dance school that has these, and I loved them! They are easy to throw on the way to dance especially in summer with a pair of shorts, making a comfy, thin, airy jacket that also isn’t too warm to dance in neither. I think this would make an amazing addition to the modern 25/26 merch as a slight addition to the modern hoodies and fleeced zip up jackets.
Thank you for reading my manifesto and considering me to be your 25/26 modern merch rep. I hope to be able to bring the spirit from the current committee into next year and bring all these ideas to life.
Lots of love, Lily xxx

Hi, I’m Beth, I’m a first year mathematics student and I would love to be your merch rep.
I currently do open jazz and was in advanced lyrical in first semester. You may have also seen me at BSL rehearsals or in the ballet society and girls training together. I love the society and am excited to hopefully be able to get more involved and be able to help and support the society as your 25/26 merch rep.
I think I’m a good candidate for this position because I have always loved fashion and designing my own clothes, including dance costumes. From the age of about 5 I was always seen with my sketch book or top model fashion book drawing my designs and as I got older I started sewing and making clothes for my dolls. I still love fashion even though I ended up studying maths and would love to design some cute merch and show shirts for you. Also, due to the skills I’m learning from my maths degree, I will be able to handle ordering and budgeting and I want to find new ways to make the merch as affordable as possible. Another reason I’m thinking I’m right for this role is because I own way too much dance merch (if that’s possible) and it takes up a lot of space in my wardrobe.
As merch rep, there are a few goals I have for next year. As well as making the merch more inclusive by finding ways to lower the price, I want you to be involved in the decisions about the merch that will be on offer to you. As merch rep, I would ask you what you want, whether it’s what products you want or choosing between a few designs for a show shirt. I want you to be involved. I would try to make the sizes of the merch easier to understand so we can make sure everyone gets the correct size. I am also hoping to introduce more options for bottoms, for example some shorts for when the studios get hot and maybe some more designs for joggers (while keeping the iconic glitter joggers of course). I was also thinking of designing a modern dance bag for us to carry all our dance shoes, costumes, water bottles and anything we need for dance.
One of the main things I am excited for when it comes to being merch rep is working with the show and comp reps in designing and ordering t-shirts for these events. I come from a studio that has a show shirt each year and have always wanted to be able to design my own. I would also want to get you involved by offering a few designs to let people vote for which ones they want.
Thank you for reading my manifesto and considering me to be your merch rep. I have loved my first year at modern dance and can’t wait for the next one.

Hey guys, I’m Jaz and I would love to be your next Merch rep. I’m currently a psychology student going into third year, and I’ve been part of modern since first year. Joining the society early was the best decision I made because it’s given me the sickest memories and the bestest of friends for life. Over the past two years, I’ve taken jazz, contemporary and lyrical classes, and been part of each of their advanced competition teams. This year, I’ve also been one of the inter contemp choreographers alongside Holly (shoutout to the best team ever) and have loved every second of it. As a choreographer and comp team member, I’ve been massively involved in shaping the look and feel of our team. I know what kind of merch dancers love most, especially at comps and shows. I also understand the importance of practical details like comfort and style in dancewear.
If I was chosen to design and sell the 2025/26 merch, I’d make sure it’s fashionable, cool, and something we’re all proud to rep. I’d also coordinate with suppliers to find the best prices and quality, so our merch is affordable but still top quality. I’d make sure the collection process is calm, and would love to support the comp and show reps in designing and ordering t-shirts that feel meaningful and memorable for these events.
Some items I’d love to explore are modern sports bras and gym shorts. These would be a super cute and versatile addition to our merch lineup as they’re perfect for rehearsals, comp training, or even outside-dance activities like going to the gym (to flex being a part of the best society). Appealing to all members, from comp team to social dancers, a matching set with a comfy fit would make us feel sporty and stylish while being functional for dance classes.
I’d also love to introduce modern baby tees to bring some y2k-style fashion into our merch, while still being comfy and wearable. They’re flattering on everyone and can be styled up or down - with joggers to rehearsal or even jeans to a social. It would be a fun way for people to show off their connection to modern inside and outside the studio, and who doesn’t love a baby tee ;))
Massive thanks to this years committee for their dedication, passion and hard work towards modern. I can’t wait to continue that spirit forward as a member of next year’s team, and to hopefully bring some cool merch with it!
(Sorry for making you read this long essay, love you all xxxx)
