Hey hey heyyyyy, if we haven’t met already my name is Ellen and I’m currently a 2nd year Dental Student. I can’t even begin to explain how surreal it feels even to be applying for a role like this, dance has truly been the centre of my uni life and I genuinely believe I have met friends for life here. 

I started dance quite late in the game the day after my 15th birthday, so I quickly realised that there was a lot of work I needed to do to be even comparable to my friends at the time. I was put in classes with girls around the age of 9-12 andbelieve me there was a fair amount of people who told me there was no point continuing as ‘you have to start young’. I like to think that I am proof that that is not true! I believe that dance is all about how much passion and dedication you put into it, and I would love to bring all that passion and love for dance to the role of president.

Prior to uni, I had never done any sort of competitive dance before, after hearing about auditions and many nervous phone calls with my mum (sorry mum) I decided just to chuck myself into the experience. This was one of the best decisions I have made in my uni experience so far, I made so many new friends and ended up competing in Adv Jazz, Lyrical and a Duo (which was so unbelievably fun)!! Following the comp season, I gained more confidence to finally get involved in the social side of the society, and met even more of you amazing people! This is when I realised that this is what uni is truly about… fun, friends and far too many jägers ;) Rumour has it I am in Revs right now in a swimming cap…

Nearing the end of my first year in modern I knew that I had to get more involved, I remember speaking to Steph at the time and she managed to wiggle this little fresher into choreographing some of the varsity dance. After some consideration, I decided to go for comp rep the following year!

Being your comp rep has truly been an amazing experience, I was one half of the duo that organised the biggest Let’s Dance EVERRR! Which still absolutely blows my mind. I even decided to get more involved with comp teams, competing in Adv Jazz, contemporary and lyrical while also getting involved with the ballet society in the Inter Ballet comp team! Not to forget having the opportunity to choreograph and dance in Wildcard (which slayed btw if you haven’t seen it ;) ). This gave me so many skills that I believe will transfer perfectly to the role of president. Peak organisation, conversational skills, time management and adapting under pressure are just a few of the skills I have developed even further through the comp rep role!

If you haven’t gathered already, I like dance quite a bit. And because of this, I want to bring more dance to modern!!! To do this I want to increase technique classes around show times to make sure everyone is still improving and thriving, along with giving other society members more chance to teach little pop-up classes of whatever they like!! 

I really appreciate you reading my manifesto, and I hope this gives you some confidence in me as president for next year.I promise I will do my absolute best to make you all proud to be a member of Modern xxx
