Hi everyone! I’m Sali and I would love the opportunity to be secretary this year. I have loved the past two years I have had at modern dance and would like to commit more to the society next year! I have met the most amazing girls through modern who I look forward to seeing every week. I can’t wait to meet more lovely people next year!

I will be a good candidate for this role because I have great organisation, this is shown through my ability to balance out dance, a job and uni! I have always kept my plate full, with juggling a levels and a job, and at one point in my gap year having three very different jobs. Working at a kids club in the morning to then grilling chicken at nandos was definitely a choice from desperation. These organisation skills will aid me with the emails and make sure they are fully updated for you all. Being a member of modern has shown me how important teamwork is, which is key for this role, so I can use this to make sure I am in contact with everyone to help. With my varying jobs and dancing through the years I really understand why working in a team is so important.

My goals are to successfully continue Natasha’s hard work this year. Making sure all the socials are up to date, I want to have a keen focus on tik tok. Trying to get tik tok ideas from the whole society. So yes, I will try get as many of you in the tik toks! I would also like to display more opportunities to get more involved in the society. I fortunately had the opportunity to represent Modern at StrictLEEDS which was hosted by the ballroom society. It was so fun and something to work towards! I made new friends and learnt a style I would’ve never learnt on my own and successfully raised over £200 for charity with my partner. I also would like to find a way to make a how to for every dance room. So, when the freshers come, or if there is room changes there is something that easily can be referred to if needs be, like maybe a highlight on the Instagram.

Being part of modern has really helped my confidence grow especially in first year! It’s hard being away from home and modern was a great outlet.

I am looking forward to my last year at modern, (not looking forward to being a third year…)

Hi everyone, I’m Meg and currently a 2nd year Biomed student. Most of you will know me as one of your Social Secretaries, or see me in advanced contemporary, inter jazz and inter tap classes. Hopefully you’ll be pleased to know that I am running for a committee role again to be your Secretary! Modern has been such a huge part of my uni experiences these past two years and I am excited to potentially be more involved next year!

If there is one key detail to know about me it is that I am SUPER organised, both in my degree, dance and general life. This makes me really enjoy admin tasks, making lists and keeping everything regularly updated and in order. This is part of the reason why I think the role of Secretary would be perfect for me, and I know I’ll enjoy sending you all weekly emails and dealing with our society admin and social media. I am also very chatty (not shocking to those that know me as social sec this year!), but this means I will always be open to talk to and answer any of your questions as quickly as I can. I believe this is such an important part of being secretary and I want you all to know that all your dance affairs will be safe in my hands and treated respectfully.

Area 1: Emails and Organisation
On top of continuing Natasha’s amazing work, the first real aim I have for next year is to introduce a ‘running document’ of all the forms and useful links you need in every weekly email. We are all so busy outside of dance and I think this simple change will help you all feel more on top of dance admin. This would include merchandise forms, show forms, the link to our Engage page for purchases, society feedback forms and anything else relevant that crops up! This way both you and I will feel so much more organised. This will also help other committee members ensure that their announcements are not lost on facebook. This feeds into putting a contents list at the top of emails. This way if you do have to search back through, you know what is included and can also jump to the most relevant sections for you in every email. Next, I want to ensure that our emails are inclusive for all dancers. This means I will include bold text, colours and alternative texts for images to help everyone access the emails. My aim is to drive home the inclusive nature of Modern Dance that we all strive to uphold.

Area 2: Committee Affairs
Having been on committee this year, I also recognise how much work each member puts in and will help to ensure that our inbox and google drive remain organised to try and relieve stress - particularly around competitions and show periods. I know this aim doesn't directly impact everyone- but I know having this internal organisation has been so critical in keeping our society running efficiently for you (our members) and our external partners.

Area 3: Aspects to keep
There are also so many wonderful elements that Natasha has put in place this year that I will keep, as they have really helped me keep organised this year. Weekly emails will still be sent out promptly on Monday to give everyone the optimum time to engage with the content - and the all important running document I would include! Our Instagram and Tik Tok have stepped up this year too, which excites me since I love running Modern Madness’s instagram alongside Amelia. I hope to use all my canva and Tik Tok skills from Modern Madness this year to help keep our social media in its prime - it's actually been a really good outlet for me from my degree that I want to continue! I am also very open to any social media suggestions and collaborating more across Modern in this way. I can’t wait to hear all your ideas!
