I'm Francesca, a first-year business management student and I would love to be your costume sec next year! I currently do lyrical in Modern and hoping to add jazz into the mix next year too.

From classes to socials, I have loved every minute of being a part of Modern Dance. My personal highlight has got to be going on tour to Barcelona (4 unforgettable days with the best people and memories I'll never forget). That trip made me realise just how much I love being part of this society and it's made me want to get even more involved. By running for costume secretary, I hope I can help make everyone else's experience just as fun and unforgettable as mine has been.

I'm someone who lives for a good Pinterest board, loves planning and has a creative streak (that unfortunately doesn't get much use in my business degree). That said, thanks to my degree, I do know my way around a spreadsheet so I can make sure every costume is tracked, tagged and where it needs to be when its showtime.

I also know how important it is to feel confident on stage when dancing and that starts with what you're wearing. My main goal is to make sure every dancer feels their absolute best, whether that's through collaborative costume decisions or simple having a safety pin at the ready backstage (because we all know show days can be chaotic!).

My propositions for next year:
1. More costume collabs with other societies:
One idea I have would be a costume swap event which is sustainable and also a great idea to save on costume costs. It would be a great chance for different societies to come together outside of the dance studio, with music, snacks and fun all round. We could even include elements like a "best dressed" mini competition, raffle prizes and even set up a borrowing system for future performances.
2. Better dancer input:
Something I'd really love to focus on is making sure dancers have a bigger say in what they wear. Whether its sharing inspiration boards, running quick polls to vote on styles and colours, or gathering feedback on comfort and practicality from previous shows. I want everyone to feel involved, listened to, and confident in their costumes.
3. Pop-up fundraisers
I would love to work with the welfare rep to organise mini pop-up fundraisers throughout the year to help raise extra money for costumes. These would be fun events that show the other talents all our lovely dancers have. These would be ideas like bake sales around campus, quiz nights, bingo, craft nights etc. Not only would these fundraises help increase our budget and allow us to get even better costumes but they'd also be a fun way for us all to come together outside of our Wednesday madness.

Hi, I’m Megan. I’m a first year studying Religion, Politics and Society and I would love to be next years costume sec! A few of my interests outside of dance include live music, fitness and reading. I’ve absolutely loved my first year at Leeds and Modern has definitely been a highlight of that. I just do the inter lyrical class right now but, next year I hope to join jazz and audition for the competition teams (as well as join Ballet!!). Tour was an insane, crazy experience and will definitely be a core uni memory for me, I really loved getting to know girls outside of my usual dance circle (as well as terrorising the men in Barca’s clubs!).

I would be honoured to be part of the committee next year as your costume sec. I’d love to help out our community a little bit more and be more involved behind the scenes as well. I’m particularly interested in becoming costume sec as I’ve loved performing in the shows this year and am passionate about continuing Modern’s pledge of inclusivity. For me, this means ensuring everyone is comfortable on stage and that there are costumes available that everyone feels comfortable wearing.
As well as this, I believe inclusivity to mean our costumes are also as environmentally friendly as possible. Whether this means reusing ones from previous years or sharing costumes with other societies, I think it’s important to maintain an environmentally conscious attitude when choosing what we wear on stage!

I’d make a good costume sec as I’m a confident and approachable person, making me able to effectively cater to everyone’s needs. I also consider myself to be very organised and efficient, enabling ease when it comes to sorting show or competition costumes. I’m also good at working with budgets and will ensure Modern not only looks good but, isn’t put out of pocket in the process. Most importantly I’m creative and love a bit of dressing up, as you can see from some of my social costumes! I’d really love the opportunity to channel my creative energy into the committee next year and would really appreciate any votes for costume sec. Thank you!!

Hey everyone, l'm Amelia and I would be thrilled to be your costume rep next year. My first year of Uni has been incredibly enjoyable thanks to being part of Modern. A bit about me: I am studying French and History and I have been lucky enough to be a part of the Intermediate Jazz Competition Team.

Dancing alongside new friends in shows and competitions has helped me appreciate the hard-work and dedication the committee puts into creating amazing experiences for us. I would absolutely love to contribute more by being on the committee.

I have a genuine passion for fashion and I love exploring different styles and putting together outfits with cool accessories. I want to make sure that our costumes not only look fantastic, but feel fantastic and give us a boost of confidence when we perform. Comfort is really important too so l will chose costumes that allow us to move freely - whether we are soaring through leaps, kicking high or showing off our shimmies ;)

This year, i've had the chance to see some incredible costumes from other societies and universities, and I believe we can aim for even greater things next year. I understand that I have big shoes to fill as our current costume rep won us 2 trophies for best costume in two different dances.
Having this in mind, I'm excited and ready to dream up fun, stylish outfits that will help Leeds Modern shine in the dance scene.

If I am chosen as your representative, I plan to organise our current costumes before events and performances, making things easier for all of us. I will create a handy spreadsheet to categorise costumes by size, color and style, so we can find exactly what we need. I'm also looking forward to costume-sharing options with other brilliant dance societies at Leeds. Plus, I would love to organise some fundraising events perhaps to boost our costume budget so we can expand our collection further.
