I'm running for women's captain as I feel everyone within the society deserves to be represented via someone actively involved in sessions, socials and races. I am keen to create bonds on an individual basis with each and every athlete (especially female), as well as being a point of contact for anyone with questions, worries or for general chat.

I am Jennie and I will be going into my third year of Medicine at Leeds (although this is my second round of Uni so I'm getting on a bit in age). I would really like to go for Women's captain as I have really enjoyed getting more involved in the Cross Country club the past couple of years. I have some experience of being in the Cross country committee as I was a general member last year and helped lead the some Monday runs and helped to organise the Christie Cup event. In addition, I am very familiar with several of the big events on the race calendar from being the social secretary of the Edinburgh University Hare and Hounds committee. This also means that I can use my insight from seeing how a different cross country club was run as well as develop my own new ideas – for example I would be keen to do a weekly member of the week recognising good participation in training, efforts from races and general recognition of the achievements of members. Furthermore, I have branched out in other roles as the Treasurer of the Leeds Obstetric and gynaecology society this past year. This previous experience has taught me to work with other committee members and communicate my ideas and encourage other members to get involved. Getting more engaged in the club this year has increased my confidence and I appreciate the role of Women’s captain may offer some challenges (as I am sometimes quite shy) but I look forward to the challenge of the role and hope that my own experience of being timid will make me more intent on involving old and new members in the training and social events to create a welcoming and inclusive environment within the club.
