Hi everyone, my name's Ruby and I've probably met most of you on various Wilderness trips (I'm usually wearing a puffin headband)! I'm applying to be your new Secretary as I feel I have the enthusiasm and experience required to help ensure a great year of teaching, trips, socials and competitions for all of you Wildlings next year!

My position on general committee last year has given me a good grasp on the running of the society and the planning of our fantastic weekends away. Competing in both Northern Trials and Wild Trials has also provided me with some great experience in emergency medicine so get ready for some crazy scenarios on our next trips! Don't worry though, I plan to organise some regular interactive teaching sessions to turn you all into pro emergency medics before we throw those at you!

I'm intercalating in International Health next year and so will have plenty of time to invest into Wilderness Medicine. I love the friendly, inclusive and supportive environment created by this society and I will ensure these remain key focuses in the planning of future events.

This year I helped organise and run the national Leeds Swing Revolution event with over 250 attendees and feel this is a valuable set of skills that I can bring into the role of Wilderness Medicine Secretary if we decide as a society to run any large-scale events such as Northern Wild Trials next year.

Hi! I’m India and I’m hoping to be the secretary for Wilderness Medicine this year! I’ve loved getting involved in the society this year (personal highlight was coming 3rd at the Northern Trials) and I’m keen to see how we can make Wilderness Med even better!

My skills:
Organised - I’ve been the LAMMPS choir manager this year which is a pretty admin-intense role. I’ve been responsible for organising rehearsals, promoting events, printing music, buying biscuits (obviously the most important role!) and replying to messages/queries.

Welfare-orientated - Having had a lot of personal experience searching for access requirements and navigating the world as a disabled person, I know it can be tough and I’m passionate about making Wilderness Med more inclusive. I’ve felt supported this year and I’d like to continue this legacy, to make our society feel as safe and welcoming as possible. I’m also in contact with a trans paramedic who is keen to deliver some teaching on LGBTQ+ issues in emergency/pre-hospital care, which should be really eye-opening!

Approachable - I’d like to think I’m a friendly face especially when someone is joining one of our events for the first time! I’ll talk to anyone and I’m hoping this will foster lots of positive relationships between us and also with other universities (for more Northern/Wild Trials-style events!). I’d also be keen to set up a society group chat as it’s easy to feel out of the loop if you’re not in a competition team or on committee.
