Hey, I’m Sona. Well Sonica to be true but I don’t know what my mother was thinking when she named me that so Sona it is. If you don’t know me from @sonadent then you probably should go check my page out :)
I am looking forward to becoming a part of DentSoc by applying for the publicity officer role. I could sit here and tell you I love creating content, I’m very creative & above all a great communicator but I’d rather just tell you that when I’m not running late for my 9am clinics I manage to run @sonadent, @bgulbybaroque and editing page on Instagram, Tiktok & Facebook.
Sonadent is where I document my journey as a dental student to hopefully aspire students, share my thoughts and clarify any concerns/misconceptions. To be noticed by platforms such as Quizlet, Monday.com & Voxxi are some of my achievements from sonadent. Creating trending content requires creative filming and editing skills, which I truly relish. Just to further supplement my interest in editing I also edit famous celebrities in my spare time on TikTok.
I have an innate artistic flair and when I’m not carving out the occlusal surface of the maxillary first molar I use textile and fashion to exhibit this. I run an Asian clothing business with my mum, where my responsibilities include managing the online website, social media accounts and photography. I also create aesthetic posts informing customers of new arrivals, sale & updates etc. I have a degree of knowledge in maintaining an active presence on social media and hope to further develop this as I manage DentSoc.

Hi everyone! I’m Adrienne, a second-year dental surgery student, and I will be running for Publicity Officer this year.

Events and socials are at the heart of DentSoc, from charity bake sales and bowling nights to the annual Freshers events which mark the start of dental school, awkward icebreakers and binbag costumes aside. I have no doubt that next year’s social calendar will be even better, and after coming to events for the past two years I would love to bring my own ideas to committee by promoting these to all members, especially after the COVID restrictions in recent years.

Past experience that I think makes me suited for this role includes working on The Worsley Times committee as the dental rep, regularly communicating events to all dental students and liaising with DentSoc to promote its activities to help make dental students feel included in a society that is traditionally for medical students.

I also have an interest in graphic design and photography (check out my reading/dental insta :) @the.reading.dentist) and am confident in using my creative flair to produce funky and fresh advertising materials to help improve our online presence, which the pandemic has proven is an essential part of communicating with members.

Learning more about the role from the current publicity officer inspired me to run for it this year, and if elected I would regularly update the social media channels and year group chats with any events taking place, making the first years feel welcome and included, as well as dusting the cobwebs off the website. Maintaining active social media channels could also help us reach out to new speakers or potential sponsors, and increase our status.
