Hello my name is Abbie and I am currently a 2nd year medical student, with a personal interest in Rheumatology. After many months of investigations, my twin brother was diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis 4 years ago. It was an extremely challenging diagnosis, with management not only using traditional medications, but involving nutrition and holistic care, which has further built upon my existing interest in the immune system and the gut microbiome.

Outside of medicine, I am a keen skier and active member of the Leeds University Barbells society, and also enjoy ad hoc meetups with other societies. These have broadened my understanding of musculoskeletal injuries and I would like to further my knowledge. My role with the Barbells society would unlock opportunities for possible joint events, for example a Musculoskeletal and Barbells talk about common injuries in powerlifting.

I would be a great clinical rep as I am a sociable character, who enjoys meeting new people and have a wide network, which would be useful in raising awareness of the society. I am a friendly and approachable person, and I know my peers would feel comfortable giving me feedback on events. I thrive off being busy, therefore my diary is always close to hand to keep me in check - as the saying goes ‘if you want a job done, ask a busy person!’

Hi everyone, I'm Migena, and I would love to be the role of Clinical Years Rep. I am interested in Rheumatology and MSK, and having seen how the society runs, I would love to be a part of it! Throughout school, I have always been involved promoting and organising events, and I hope to continue this in medical school through LRMMS. Using these skills and my previous experiences, I plan to establish a good line of communication between the society and potential members, enthusiastically taking on board their feedback and ideas of what they want to get out of this society.
